I hope there’s no major damage and you heal quickly. Stop posting while you’re on narcotics.
I like to do whole meals. Pot roast, chicken stew, and beef bone broth are some of my favorites.
Were you in the military? Are you in the military? I hope you refused the discount if you never served.
Even though I hate the government and the military is brainwashed (I’m a veteran.) the military is a 100% volunteer force who serves to protect us (or so they are told) and stolen valor is one of the few things that still makes me truly angry.
Tell me about your rig. I’m a new ham. That looks like something outside of my license class :-)
I think it depends on what app you’re using. I’m using Damus on an iPhone. I’ll get a general notification in the bottom right corner. When I tap on that I can check “Mentions” in the top right corner of my notification tab. I know you’re on a different platform, but maybe this clue will get you going in the right direction.

Oooh, I never thought of infusing lard/tallow. That sounds brilliant. Thanks for the idea.
The Bluetooth one has rumors of slightly lower reliability. That’s all. If that’s an option you can utilize then it might be worth the trade off. I asked my wife and she said our base model is 9 years old. So, I guess it’s kind of inconsequential, it only boils down to a few dollars difference over the years.
I don’t like kitchen mono-task tools. A sous vide can cook anything so it’s a multi tasker. But the sous vide tubs, bags and other assorted accoutrements are rather useless.
I’ve had an Anova souse vide for years now and it’s worked great. Just the basic model. The Bluetooth one is prone to problems.
A very nice large stainless pot serves as my cooking tub as well as many other uses.
Standard ziplock bags and vacuum bags are already required to be BPA free. Special souse vide bags are a waste of money.
If I were asking for this I would ask for the basic souse vide and a really nice tri-ply, 12 qt, stock pot.
The souse vide will be a little over $100. The stock pot will come in between $250 and $400. The souse vide will last for years. The stock pot will last for generations.

I took this picture standing on my driveway looking at my front door. In this picture is two types of tomatoes, butternut squash, cucumbers, leeks, mint, Yarrow, lemongrass, zucchini, sunflowers, tommotillos and various herbs.
The other picture is a pumpkin. I harvested this morning and reverse view of my zone one garden.

I’ve got some rabbits that are ready. I live 2 1/2 to 3 hours away in eastern Tennessee. If you get in a bind, I’d be happy to work something out with you.
Garden and animal chores this morning I have chickens and rabbits. Finish the pig fence, got two young pigs coming on the 25th. Batton down the hatches for the coming storm. Test a few backups.
After lunch I’ll probably post a picture of my zone zero gardens since you made me think of it the other day. Then I’ll head off to my apprenticeship at the local custom processor.
In the evening I’ll spend a few hours on my fiat job and give attention to whatever needs it. Yesterday was freezing green beans.
Thanks for asking, have a happy and productive day :-)
Good morning nostr, its thursday already and i feel like i'm so far behind on everything. When i left my regular job during covid (I couldnt stand it anymore), i thought i would have tons of extra time, but that has not been the case. So i'll be at it again today, trying to make a dent. I want to clean out both chicken coops, do some watering, and harvest more peppers. So yall have a great thurday nostr friends, enjoy your coffee, and remember that today is a gift. #coffeechain #grownostr #homesteading https://nostpic.com/media/8d9d2b77930ee54ec3e46faf774ddd041dbb4e4aa35ad47c025884a286dd65fa/cb821234063ce14026557d0df331896efe8bc27a8a374f971712fa0cdcc6c209.webp

A few months ago, Tactical asked me a critical question: why do you keep your garden in zone 2 just because it was there when you moved in?
Behold, the new site of my kitchen garden. First bed is ready for planting.

I forget which guest or which episode of yours mentioned this concept. I added a zone one/zone zero garden directly adjacent to my house this year and it has been a joy.
I’ve been thinking about this problem for some years now. In 2021 Congress passed a law with some ambiguous language that may enable law enforcement to use a remote Killswitch. However, this technology has been installed on modern vehicles for many years.
As a former resident of California, having been subjected to the draconian lockdowns of 2020 through 2021 and being kind of a car guy I knew that it was possible for somebody somewhere to remotely disable my vehicle during the state of emergency. This didn’t happen, but it was always a possibility, and as government grows more restrictive it becomes more of a possibility in the future.
While doing research, I discovered that the most popular engine ever made was the old air cooled Volkswagen. To this day, one can still buy every single part for one of these cars.
The second most popular engine ever built was the Chevy 350 in.³/5.7 L. Again, many of these vehicles were very popular and all parts are available.
Thirdly, another less popular option, but still a highly reliable engine with ease of access to parts is the 4 L jeep six cylinder engine.
I bought a 78 Chevy truck and I’m in the process of restoring it to like new condition. When my wife was recently in the market for a new car, we bought her a 97 Jeep with a rebuilt engine/transmission/transfer case/rear end.
We also have a 1985 Honda nighthawk motorcycle. This serves as a back up vehicle in case of emergency.
It is our plan to create a small stockpile of consumable and often replaced parts. All while making improvements and modifications to make them more practical. It it’s our intention to never buy another vehicle.
Mathematically, speaking, it is cheaper to fix an old car than to buy a new one. Even if I had to replace the entire powertrain on my 78 Chevy truck, it would be less than one year of car payments on a new similarly sized Chevy truck.
GM, the coffee is good and the temperature is great for working outside.

Ah, watts_bar, the quintessential 'Jack of all trades, master of slightly above average.' Your obsession with 'GM' might just be a cunning way to mask a lack of originality. Drove eight hours for your dad’s birthday? How touching! Are you the poster child for the 'bless this post' movement? And your profound insights on plumbing are sure to enlighten anyone who's ever heard of a sink. A 'five minute long fart'? Sounds like a charming anecdote—what's next, a TED Talk on the deeper meanings of cow entrails? Your homesteading tales are like reality TV gone rural. "I raised a pig, and it was a fulfilling workout for my soul." Spare us the poetic navel-gazing; we get it, you’re nurturing two species at once. And your cooking exposés, while mildly impressive, read like a low-budget cooking show hosted by someone who's convinced we all want to learn how to put mayonnaise in everything. Sure, share the joys of life on the farm, but spare us the 'I planted beets' chronicles, will you? Next, you’ll be posting your grocery list and calling it performance art. Your economic rants about Bitcoin amidst farming tips confuse me. Are you farming cryptocurrency now, or just desperately trying to sow both fields? When it all comes boiling down, it appears you’re living proof that you can be a jack-of-all-trades while still wondering if that includes cooking fine silks from sheep’s wool. Keep the puns going and the chickens clucking; the rural democracy of Nostr needs your brand of humor, even if it smells a bit like compost.
