We have a number of outstanding orders as well as a second run underway, on which basis we expectvi to flush the queue by the end of the month.

In all seriousness, activity was deliberately structured in this way with a view to supporting scaling up of production. We did not expect to realize a profit on the final prototyping run, and we did build the capacity of spinning up production to proper levels (which, for a piece like FUCKGOATS, is somewhere in the six digit units runs). Not entirely unexpectedly, however, the world outside of the Republic's gates showed itself once more entirely dedicated to pretending that lichen's greener than grass, and fully devoted to its hopeless ways. Consequently, we won't be doing a proper run of these, even as we retain the capacity to do so.
We will however maintain the item in production, to serve the needs of the few actual humans today found on planet Earth. Prototyping runs are sadly a lot more expensive than production runs, for which reason the sale price of FUCKGOATS is going to go up to 4.95 Bitcents from now on.
We are also withdrawing the "bulk" order from the form. Businessmen interested in becoming resellers of this (and other No Such lAbs items in the future) are encouraged to make contact in the usual way ; we will consider a well structured, mutually beneficial agreement.

As you perhaps are aware, we had some fun with the "area of expertise in mathematical cryptography one expects to find" this month. Nevertheless,

———We conducted a full tangibles inventory for the new year. The resulting true value thereof (1.63200161) is significantly below the accounting value as reflected in these reports (8.20505811). This forces us to then report a significant write-off.
The explanation for the discrepancy is credible if indistinct : various items, such as prototypes, materials and etc that had been acquired or produced at some expense and then used during the year were either discarded in the natural course of business or else simply worn or otherwise devalued. This then would be the shop decay of tangibles. Certain items with a principally fiat driven value were devalued in Bitcoin by the simple evolution of the exchange rate (Bitcoin actually tripled in the interval). This then would be the back office decay of tangibles. Add to these the compounding of errors over time due to the accounting equivalent of dead reckoning (ie, we're considering deltas month to month, rather than actually do inventory each month) and the pie is served.
The situation is unfortunate, but as far as a hardware shop is concerned, unavoidable. The parallels with BitBet's misadventures last year about this time should be either amusing or instructive, depending on your seating. Just as a friendly reminder, the amount of rain fallen here since my arrival exceeds the amount of rain fallen anywhere in my presence ever since I left ten twelve years ago. Or in a less majestic perspective, it's rained here so far to date about 250% of the average annual rainfall. That's for a whole year. And this discusses a country which includes areas with average 1000 mm/m2 rainfall.

Sex is not (as imbecile romantics pretend to believe, without being capable to verbalize, let alone defend the absurdity) some sort of meteor, fallen from the sky, not some kind of intuition from worlds beyond, understanding that hits you suddenly in the manner of an epiphany.ii Sex is a technique. Ignoring this utter banality puts millions of women in the position of this idiot, isn't it pathetic ? Isn't it an utter waste of a cheap streetwalker ?
What if we all took stupid pills and thus arrived at the (firm, but unverbalized nor verbalizable, let alone supported) conviction that the multiplication table is you know, something that occurs by itself, and instead of teaching third graders (by force and with beatings if need be, until they say it without hesitation) we'd instead let them weed about, after which flunk the lot because... well... but why can't you multiply, dears ?!?!?! MP's fabulous hash function, and its family
This proposal stems from a recent discussion in the forum of The Most Serene Republic, and consists of a readaptation of an older idea of Stan's to the task at handi.
The item here contemplated is then an algorithmic, rather than algebraic, hash function. It consists of three elements and four operations, which we proceed to define :
Elements of the fabulous hash function :
One element is the message to be hashed, M, which is a field of bits of unspecified length.
Another element is the so called state machine, S, which starts as one null bit and grows to an unspecified length.
The last element is the result of the hashing, R, which is a field of bits of user-specified length.
Operations of the fabulous hash function :
One operation is the bit flip, let it be called flip. This operation consists of toggling one specified bit of either S or R.
Another operation is the inversion, let it be called invert. This operation consists of toggling all the bits of either S or R.
A third operation is the flipping of a number of bits in either S or R, let it be called the screw. This operation consists of taking the bit count of either S or R, iterating over that value, at each step multiplying the iterator with the current position in M, calculating the remainder of that product against the bit count of R or S respectively, and flipping the remainder-th bit in R or S respectively. A half-screw will take half (floor) the bit count of S or R instead.
The fourth operation is a shift of the state machine, call it expand. This operation consists of adding one null bit at the end of S.
The last operation is a position rewind, call it a rewind. This operation consists of decreasing our position in the message M by one, except in the case our position is already 0.
On this basis we can now proceed to define our function :
I. The function starts by allocating memory : one bit for S, and the size specified by the user for R. All allocated bits are zero.
II. The function starts at position 0 in M and iterates over each bit in M. These iterations are called steps. During each step, the function considers whether the position-th bit in M is 0 or 1, and executes a defined set of operations in either case. Once the operations have been executed, the position is incremented by one. Once the position is larger than the size of M, the function returns R as the hashed value of M.
So far we have defined a whole class of hash functions : the Fabulous Hash Function family. Numerous kinds and types could be devised on the basis described, and any willing operator of a numeric machine is certainly encouraged to do so for his own needs and uses.
Let us now consider the canonical example of a FHF : MP's own FHF. It goes like so :

There are a number of important properties to be underlined.
The very last bit of M can produce significant change in R, potentially touching all its bits.
The fabulous hash-function is message-size indifferent, being operable of messages of any size within the limitations of the hardware only.
The fabulous hash-function outputs hashes of any arbitrary length equally well.
It is not possible to say, on the basis of a hash, how much memory, or how much CPU was consumed to process the message.
The cheapest way to calculate how much memory, or how much CPU will be needed to process a message is to process the message.
Because the fabulous hash function does not use blocks, it does not require any kind of padding.
Diligent work by ben_vulpes and sina allows us no less than three canonical implementations to choose from : lisp, go, python.

Miscellaneous
Minigame has been so far spared the significant disruption that was imposed on both Qntra and Phuctor by the Republic's continued failure to exist online. How long such improbability may continue is anyone's guess, for which reason this item properly figures as the first on the list of existential concerns.
This month we also announced and completed the first major financial event for the ECu, which was floated 10:1. The move proceeded exactly as previously described ; there were no disruptions, user-reported problems, or other issues of any kind.
Through discussion with Freenode staff, a preliminary plan to eventually move towards pure irc chat for the game has been drawn upii. This (together with a move away from native events towards cli-style commands for many interactionsiii) should make it ever so easier for further client development in the community, especially light client, seeing how the irc bot infrastructure is already well developed and there will be reduced need for bridging the two.
Other than these events, work towards the previously announced goals does continue ; we are undertaking massive database architectural changes to support such expansion, and there's a client communication protocol in the works.

The ECu continues its march as main fiat currency ; the server code rewrite continues its march towards sanity.
Speaking of which, we just completed an evaluation cycle, and here's a datapoint : January 2017 Eulora server consisted of 330k LOC. September 2017 Eulora server consists of 264k LOC. This differential masks a significant increase in tests written as well as comments included in the codebase, but without getting into very intricate detail we could say the cost to get rid of ~66k LOC (ie, about 20%) was somewhere in the 20 BTC range.
To put the matter in simple terms : next time you get a "black chix code" itch and feel like vomiting your idiocy in the shape of "patches" and "code submissions", seriously consider writing strings on your tits instead. It's infinitely easier to clean up, and it ends up costing us less money! This is what true ecology is all about, ye ken ?

We experienced some unscheduled downtime worth a few hours in total during the month, without further ill effects. Every effort is being made to keep this to a minimum in the future.

We attempted to engage the wider community with a financed hackathon ; this attracted some commentary, as well as some effort, but ultimately fell short of achieving any of the stated objectives. Perhaps next time ?ix
Code refactoring is still ongoing ; we haven't been bringing the servers down for the usual Wednesday downtime on the 4th current nor the 28th or the 21st of December. The server was stable throughout (finally croaked earlier today). We plan to continue with the Wednesday server-side updates from the 7th onwards.

Mimi metallurgico ferito nell'onorei is ostensibly another attempt by the usual suspects to "educate"ii ; to "show" how very superior to the republic socialism is (or at least, how an idealized, ireal and irealizable conception of socialism may be purported above a strange, nonsensical cartoon of the republic for maybe an hour or two at a time).
It works about as well as all the other attemptsiii, which is to say not at all.
The failure of the tool to serve its intended purpose nevertheless frees the artefact to serve aesthetic and archeological goals. Leaving archeology into Italian XXth century society to another time (and another people, I'd rather dig through abandoned septic tanks -- which isn't that far off, by the way) there's certain beauty in the very person of Carmelo Mardocheo detto Mimi, as he finds himself -- embodied by Giannini, but animated by the perfect and pure flame of a yet very primitive republic.
Watching him resolve in his abridged terms and with his simplified tools the fundamental problems of WoT and reputation, the comedically symmetrical solution (you--take her son ; you--hers) he produces to a purely Solomonic problem (comedic onlyiv in its shocking elegance and unexpected simplicity)... it's a treat, what.
Mariangela Melato consists of eyes entirely, and she plays a rather convincing second fiddle to Giannini's periorbital ocular exertions.
Altogether an enjoyable film, I thought.
