Oooo Canada. It is really quite amazing the differences. I find it absurd that the US is so anal about people running businesses out of their homes. All over BC I see homes as businesses and store fronts and restaurants. All these little towns and small cities look sooo much different yet so much the same.
The forests are super lush still despite being hte end of summer. They would probably say it is parched but that is what our farm looks like, this is still rain forest feeling. Not sure where we will head today which is part of the fun.

Sometimes neglect can lead to useful outcomes. I had left the office dividers outside for years and the weather had done a good job of dissolving the glue holding them together. The dividers have a metal sheet backed by light wood on each side and they are perfect for paneling for the patio to keep the rain from splashing inside. I have enough panels left that I am going to use them to roof my gear shed next week.

Got the new metal detector in the morning yesterday and the boys spent much of the day roaming the yard. They found a relic pretty quickly, an old gaming token from the 20s/30s which makes sense as our cabin had been a bar for a few years around the 50s.
In the evening we found that we have had only our 2nd duck ever to hatch. I thought our male was sterile all this time but he managed to actually make it happen. Will see here soon if we have more or if it made it through the night.

Hiked up the hill yesterday morning and took care of the old den. I was surprised how far back it went but I caved it all in so there is no way for them to redig it. I've been keeping on the tree trimming, cutting back the branches that are lower to reduce fire danger. Thankfully it is a one time job as the branches don't grow back.

Found that I DID have a pretty big coyote come investigate one of the traps I set. I am a bit concerned about the traps though as a rabbit seemed to be all over it and never set it off.
Went to try and paraglide but the wind was just too damned strong. Did get to say goodbye to Cosmo who is moving to Alaska so that was good at least. Also found out about Mt Thompson by Creston which I am going to hopefully fly on Thrusday afternoon.

Went up the hill to pull the traps and cams yesterday morning and found one had been tripped. Turns out a squirrel got one hell of a fright but managed to survive. Still no coyote signs so I will close up the holes under the fence and pull the traps this morning.

After the rains yesterday the day was nice and cool compared to the recent days. On my hike of the hill I found another old den that looks to not be currently in use but I will go check it out with my camera and a light today. I got a nice pile of carrots pulled from their row and still have a good number left growing. In a shocker Man Utd actually won...
Ordered the boys a Garret metal detector after seeing how much they love the cheapo one they have. This will be a huge step up fromtheirs and even from the detector I had some years ago. The new models have way better circuitry and detection capabilities.

Busy day yesterday. After the harvests and tree trimming I spent much of my day working on refurbishing the old metal desk. I got the rust mostly all brushed off then a good coat of paint over it. The top is on and it sat outside under cover overnight to let the fumes lessen. We will move it into his room today.
The rain last night and into this morning is quite nice and hopefully won't make for a sticky nasty humid day today.

Totally! The mouse ball is just a ball bearing coated in rubber so when the rubber came off it was just a metal slug winging through the air. Finding them was the hard part after a shot.
Mouse balls made wonderful ammo for pelting others with as a kid. I made a sling, (David and Goliath type) and managed to blow up beer bottles with them. My parents were pissed at the glass shards so I had to aim at cans. I got a number of massive welts from getting hit by them.
I have yet to get one and haven't been hearing them in the evenings so I'm hoping they moved on. I'm giving it another couple days then will pull traps and close up their paths under the fence.
Ugg, the team is filled with mediocre players, the new coach won't do much to change that.
