Search, lists, cstom branded relays, limited groups, relay pods,etc... right now organizing and interacting with different people, groups, info on here.. it has a long way to go.
Can there be relay swarms with brands and social grouping? Like groups of relays? Having just 1 I think limits the decentralized aspect by funneling certain conversations through one place
🤗
.. no... no we dont.
Absolutely not
Got to admit I'm still bluesky curious, if only to see the other side of the Dorsey "A/B test"
Relays feel like much less of a big deal than fedi instances. I find myself thinking of relays like "swarms" in that It seems clear to me fro. My use so far you need about a dozen or so of them at least for this place to work.
I think it would be cool to be able to switch relay group to, say, a set of relays focused on a hobby, (kind of like an old forum) it could be like discovering a new, hidden country.
I want lists for pretty much the same purpose, but maybe a little more focused on specific people.
You log into the relays, read a curated feed of top posts there, and start saving the npubs you are interrested in into lists.
We need things like group relays, lists, etc so that more groups can join and easily have their own "space" and enjoy.
This has become the cypherpunk clubhouse.
Let's make it easy for others to build their own on the protocol.
Nostr should strive to capture the feeling of interacting in a live conversation with other people + the ability to discover, follow, and interact with new groups. I want to load this app up and feel like I'm exploring a map in Civilization- discovering new towns and people as I go.
Right now alot people here are posting in a vacuum with out alot of interation. The inability to group people, make lists means I have to go to my gallows and individually remember to check my favorite follows... this is too clunky.
1. listr.lol
2. relay lists/groups
3. nests
Nostr has become the cypherpunk/btc clubhouse but the lack or lists, relay organisation tools, etc makes it hard to expand the network to accomodate multiple communities. I want to be able to "load up" a new relay list and get get a new, organized set of people to interact with.
I heard that bluesky may not even have a block button yet, which is going to make life for those folks challenging.
I want to go on just to compare but honestly it sounds like it's even as far along yet as nostr.
As for the attitude.. honestly let them hate the shitcoins/web3 decentralization theater.
I think people forget that most social apps start as niche- for example when I checked out mastodon 3 years it was just a hand full of sub cultures.
nostr even now is also not really prime time ready- even if it is improving fast. So it's good that it has a dedicated user base already that tolerates the wonkyness while it is essentially in open beta.
I also think until relay switching/lists/topic curating improves its just physically difficult for the ecosystem to grow. Right now I manually check my favorite accounts and have no way to organise them- that is not sustainable for a bigger more diverse community. Tech is not there yet.
Nice! Going past a simple reply here is a pretty bad experience right now.
I agree with the gist here- we got workto do! however it is worth pointing out that most start up social media gets associated with a subculture- this was true of fediverse-mastodon before as well.
When the general culture suddenly sees the value, the "shift" is often sudden and parabolic to a new system.
