Good morning nostr!

Progress is still progress,

No matter how small.

Have a great day!

Cheers!

EGO CAN DESTROY AN ORGANIZATION

_______________

I walked into an organization today, that I used to work for several years ago. I have been gone for at least 5 years and bumped into a friend that I worked alongside. He is in the management structure.

He told me that he was worn out and looking to retire early. I was struck by the degradation of his enthusiasm. He was beat down.

Very few of the original people that I worked with are there anymore. That includes engineers, management or even the grey-beard subject matter experts. The organization has been wiped out.

His demeanor and tone told me that it was the fault of the new management that has now taken over the organization. This management has climbed the resume ladder and has stepped on many employees only to get to the next job rung. Pushing out many that are in the way.

This is a vital organization to the safety of aircraft and it has been crippled due to a “good resume” and so called effective manager. Much of the knowledge is permanently lost, never to return.

Good morning nostr!

Let’s build something today!

HOW SMALL ARE TYPICAL PRECISION MEASUREMENTS?

_______________

Here is a sample of typical measurements encountered in manufacturing and how small they are in real terms.

Human hair = .003 inch

Dust Particle = .000157 inch

Particle of smoke = .000098 inch

This is important to keep in mind when designing for manufacturing. We often forget how minute these measurements are in reality.

Do you know the last thing that went through the bugs mind when he hit that windshield?

It’s butt…

Cheers!

When I started with my civilian position in Air Force propulsion engineering, I was taken underwing by a grey beard named Pat.

Grey beard is a term for an expert in the field that has many years of experience.

Pat was the first to sit down with me and teach me GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing). This is a standard used for engineering drawings.

He sat with me only on a few occasions. However, I think of him to this day when I see any part drawing.

It takes just a few minutes of your time to make an impression on someone’s life that they will remember forever.

Thank you very much for your time Pat, I will never forget it.

Good morning nostr!

Let’s build something this week!

The quality department thought I was crazy!

That was their response to a product non-conformity. The part under their review did not fit the drawing specifications.

However, the job of Cognizant engineering is to protect form, fit and function and to understand when dimensions are important, and when they’re not.

This is the function of the material review board, or otherwise known as MRB some know it as in NCMR (Non-Conforming Material Review).

Parts don’t always have to be scrapped if out of tolerance if the tolerance does not affect overall part performance.

MRB is vitally important in the legacy aerospace industry when parts are no longer made, and very hard to procure.

Every effort must be made to save legacy aircraft parts for National Defense.

I... don't... I am not sure now. Will have the verify in photoshop.
