I’m pro #democracy because I think it is still the best system of governance we have to collectively make decisions as a society. That said, implementing strong democratic processes and maintaining their integrity is hard. There are really few countries that can claim to have a functioning democracy and many that have been functioning tend to increasingly disfunction over time mostly due rampant corruption. Counter-powers in a democracy are essential and many so-called democracies are seriously lacking in those. Also the media plays an essential role in democracies but those have been co-opted. I think there is still a lot of innovation to have in democratic governance and the next breakthrough will be supported by the digitalization of some democratic processes. Of course this has to be done the right way by maintaining the core principles of democratic processes including transparency and privacy. Also democracy can’t be reduce to the act of voting alone. Voting is a just a tool in the democratic toolset. The alternative to stronger democracies will be a global #technocracy. Pick your favorite!

Good article but the privacy benefits of #Lightning are overstated. Here is a good article on the limitations of the LN to preserve users’ #privacy.

The conclusions are: « For the definitions for privacy used in this assessment, it’s possible to say that the Lighting Network is not very private as it is right now. Ultimately, the privacy you get from using the lighting network will depend on how you use it. »

#Monero doesn’t have bullet-proof privacy yet but it’s still much better than Lightning. I don’t think privacy was the original goal of lightning anyway. #Bitcoin
