Does anyone else using #amethyst get notifications for ghost DMs?

As is the dot on the DM icon on the bottom of the screen indicates a new DM but when you click on it, nothing new is there?

One of the most difficult decisions a Nostr client faces is whether to fix an incorrect or non-compliant post from another client or simply not display it. If you fix it, the original client may never correct their mistake because "hey... it works!" — why would they? On the other hand, if you don’t, your users miss the intended content, and the author’s message is either lost or less impactful. Fixing it on the reader's side adds complexity across Nostr, as every client would then need to code a way to handle the same issue. And if you don’t fix it, users flood us with complaints about a "bug" in Amethyst, which means there is a perception that Amethyst is buggy, even though it’s not our problem.

If we fix it, other devs complain we are too permissive and "breaking" Nostr. If we don't, our users give us bad reviews.

There is no right or wrong answer. There is only pain.

Do you imagine that there is even one person in the ranks of the European Central Bank with a functioning brain cell who at this moment comes up with the idea: if this is how Bitcoin is now, why don't we buy it with our own shitcoin and then drive the herd into the price in order to deleverage ourselves in this way? Anything is possible in this universe, even that a rotten institution like the ECB will one day discover its survival instinct.

Just got stopped, searched, bag strewn on the airport floor on arrival to Germany.

I’m a bit shaken up that was horrid.

The Alsatian sniffer dog was adamant I had something on me.

I know I dont have any drugs so I was trying to be helpful to speed it up. But it’s pretty intimidating when they’re so abrupt and aggressive.

The policeman was a massive cunt though. Threw my stuff on the floor and was the “guilty until proven innocent” kind of guy.

“You have drugs. I am going to find them .”

He made me repack my bag in front of the queue leaving the plane.

I held up the queue though and they were all scowling, naturally.

They tested my hands with some swab thing and the lady policemen had to check with the other guy and said “it’s high.”

It can’t possibly be the case as I haven’t touched weed since maybe the summer?

Hate to judge but there weren’t a lot of brain cells between them.

But they still weren’t satisfied so i got paraded through past the gate to do a “underpants search” as they were adamant I had something.

At this point i was like what are my right here, you can’t just strip search someone.

Once we went through the gate though the sniffer dog changed its mind.

It stopped butting my right thigh. Thank fuck for that.

But man. All that coz they thought I had a bit of weed?

I have confirmed a bug in the NTFS driver of recent debian Linux, specifically Ubuntu 24 and zorin 17.2

Trying to back up windows files onto it from the system disk freezes my PC. Dunno if it is the USB C interface, but I have confirmed it probably is mainly NTFS driver

Reformat the drive as ext4 and try duplicating the files from a windows system drive, onto ext4, no problem.

NTFS = Not Totally Fucking Stable

It's also abominable at writing lots of small files... Duplicating my 25gb of source code stash takes longer than copying 500gb of flac files

Windows is a dumpster fire and I won't be surprised when they change the FS in the future. The ACL it uses is also excessively complex. This is why I'm making a backup... Stupid thing is trying to fix changes I made in the user profile library directories and breaks the whole installation.

Backing up so I can do a clean install on my nice fast nvme m.2 interface.

So glad I figured out I can do proper Go dev on windows including the gcc toolchain and bash.

Msys2 is clunky but better than wsl2 for my needs.

At this moment what is the best "Slack" alternative that is nostr based?

I know for a fact that Slack is compromised by US Intelligence...the parent company headquarters on the east coast is like 3 miles from Langley VA (CIA).

Seems like an easy pitch for a secure, good UX, anon-friendly #nostr chat app.
