The Bitcoin and Nostr communities aren't big enough to help cover costs for music yet. nostr:nprofile1qythwumn8ghj7cnfw33k76twv4ezuum0vd5kzmp0qy88wumn8ghj7mn0wvhxcmmv9uqzq2x2qxdh3dy5cfdfmgkkgkt44pgpcl5ekyfs9ewtuaywukflevkvug4au3 and I have both traveled, great distances, to perform for the communities (Bitcoin and Nostr) but always at my own expense. I know nostr:nprofile1qy88wumn8ghj7mn0wvhxcmmv9uq3qamnwvaz7tmwdaehgu3wd4hk6tcqypceq9nx7fljl9ff4cz4ju9q689memfnm9vtx8gcu5mt5v8rd52qzxw2jjt has traveled extensively as well and not been able to figure out how to monetize it in a way that makes sense. He even wrote a Bitcoin Manifesto about it! Like Joe, I think it's coming - - one day. But we really need global listeners - our fans - to want to be here and they are not here yet. I love this community but I find that it is mostly developers and developer adjacent (podcasters, entreprenuers, those that were deplatformed for one reason or another). The music community is growing but until the normie can support music with Bitcoin (maybe without even knowing it) we will continue to struggle to find enough people to support even the most basic cost coverage.
These last nine days have been so fun educating fans and artists alike on how Tidal and nostr:npub1cashappn03s3cl2ljsdntv0v28e2um5lgx4vjctqjt23pcwzjhsqmtdg5l are changing the music industry for the better, and I’m so grateful for all of the direct support I’ve received from fans following these posts that are so eager to see and be a part of the change in the music industry ⭐️

I’ve tried it a couple different ways and have never had any real success with it. I get the idea but I just don’t know if there is enough traffic to specifically blockchain apps to support it widely enough. I say whatever works for you!

Tidal has removed the gatekeeping entirely with #tidalupload - 100% free to upload removes the cost of distribution (distrokid and cd baby for example) which has been on the back of indie artists for a decade. And with 100% of nostr:npub1cashappn03s3cl2ljsdntv0v28e2um5lgx4vjctqjt23pcwzjhsqmtdg5l payments going to artists (no fees taken by tidal or @cashapp) we’ve removed publishing and collections middlemen. HUge Win! #Tidalupload is not DeMu and I don’t think they are attempting to be that. DeMu is not ready for prime time yet. While V4V apps are allowing artists like me to begin to get paid (🙌) the DeMu distribution process has no protections for music IP or licensing considerations. Once an artist distributes their music on a free and open market - anyone (ie: Netflix or Disney) can make the case that the music is free and public fair use and they would owe nothing to put it in a blockbuster movie, robbing artists of possible windfalls. All of these improvements are a HUGE step in the right direction but with 2.5 years experience around this now, I think we are still a long way off from any real solution to disrupting traditional music industry processes. Since @tidal nostr:npub1cashappn03s3cl2ljsdntv0v28e2um5lgx4vjctqjt23pcwzjhsqmtdg5l nostr:npub1sg6plzptd64u62a878hep2kev88swjh3tw00gjsfl8f237lmu63q0uf63m are innovating across Bitcoin I think @tidal might be a Trojan Horse to the traditional music industry who has done nothing to improve the revenue stream for indie musicians in decades.
Yes. Encouraging. I reached out to them. My folks have been working on the back end trying to help solve the IP problem and we understand the pushback with blockchain. I think the publishing answer is with blockchain though. The free and open or V4V is also a very hard sell on the artist side. The average album costs 12,000 USD and hoping people send value isn’t the best business strategy either. You’ve probably found here in Nostrland that many people disagree with me on this. BUt we absolutely need a return to music being valued, not free.
There were and are many attempts. None successful yet, which is not that surprising that many artists already have quite a lot on their plate already and, at a larger scale, music is a business controlled by only 3 companies that have enough power to strangle any innovation.
