lot of people in my life say they want to try jiu jitsu/ mma / etc but won’t commit to a trial class when offered.

the first time i ever went to a boxing gym I just sat in my car in the parking lot, severely out of shape, drug addicted, broke. I wasn’t there to meet anyone. no one knew i was there. I didn’t know anyone there. I didn’t know why I was there. I didn’t go inside.

But for me to even pull up to a gym for the first time was passing a hurdle that changed my life. the next day I held my self accountable, and returned. I just watched. The day after that I put on some borrowed gloves and participated. demonstrable intent, embracing failure.

I’ve built on that slowly. defeating core limiting beliefs by degrees. The gains have been exponential over time, tho many ups and downs. I’m not a world champion in anything, but I have learned how to learn, and embrace new and uncomfortable lifestyles & communities. Learned a lot, failed even more, but importantly just ever broadening my human experience.

My point is try new things. Say yes to people. Erase your calendar. Go camping alone. Go on a blind date. Move to thailand. You can do whatever the fuck you want in this life. Quit your job. Go broke. Take a salsa class. Volunteer at a halfway house. Talk to strangers. Buy a boat. Spray paint something. Just don’t become complacent and too comfortable. embrace, Don’t waste this inexplicable existence.

If your ambitions outpace your ability, and you are showing up for life. you can’t lose.

no need to broadcast or virtue signal that you intend to do or start something to feed your ego or mask a social insecurity. no need to be successful in the eyes of others. catch myself doing these a lot honestly.

but important to remember it’s you vs you. Others can serve as occasional benchmarks or inspiration, but how you push to improve yourself when no one is around is the only relevant measure of progress.

so just go do that new thing. enjoy it, enjoy the new people you meet and the learning process 🤙 oss

Just watching nostr:npub12r0yjt8723ey2r035qtklhmdj90f0j6an7xnan8005jl7z5gw80qat9qrx take steps without crutches or a cane for the first time in 2 years.

He’s wobbly, but it’s amazing to see again.

Yay! That’s incredible!!

Hey just so you know when I am on the iOS app, I’m auth’d on the app with nostr but when I follow the link to their stream, to use the chat it’s asking me to connect to nostr and it throws this error.

May be the closest approximation of me irl that will get posted here 😂

I'm obsessed with privacy and have been for many years. A long time ago, I figured out that it was going to be completely impossible to hide everything about myself from corporations and governments. Instead, I try to create a false signal to drown out the bits of personal info I inadvertently leave in the ether.

I used to be paranoid about filling out surveys. Now, I take everyone offered and lie my ass off. When I heard that the NSA had created the world's largest data warehouse to store all encrypted data, I not only got a VPN, but I bought the fastest internet connection I could and started pumping out vast amounts of encrypted garbage. My estimate is that they have over 6,000 hard disks devoted to me now. When image recognition became a thing, I started tagging random celebrities and household objects as myself on Facebook. I sometimes tape my cell phone to delivery trucks to lay a false GPS trail. I pay cash for everything except tacos and dog biscuits. I don't own a dog.

Now, AI is slurping up all that data, in the hopes of building intelligence. All that data I created. All the outliers I caused. All the averages I ruined. All the noise I caused to cover my signal. So if your Tesla breaks hard for no reason, or your humanoid robot tries to start a conversation with your toaster, think of me. If the FBI's precrime model says you're a cucumber or your phone pastes a picture of the moon over your grandmother, think of me. If ChatGPT tells you unoxygenated blood is blue or rhizomes are the powerhouse of the cell think of me. It's all my fault and I'm not sorry.

We all appreciate your service. I will send your dog virtual tacos in gratitude. Tell Gertie I said good boy.

Does #olas strip out metadata when posting photos? The UI is just 🤤

I’m not emotionally tapped, you’re emotionally tapped…

Immediate iconic moment.

Selfishly I hope he also brings out Lil Wayne because of where it’s being held but we’ll see.

But what if they’re paid the collective GDP of a small country to do so? Is it interesting then? 😂

I feel you. I watch it and do enjoy it but it’s quickly (as with other sports) losing its luster. It’s become much more of an obvious entertainment business and I don’t enjoy that part. Give me soccer matches on mute every day haha
