First, admitting how little you know is great and thanks for being honest.

Please don’t take offense, but you’re somewhere between 0 and 1, on scale of 1 -10. Seriously, take that with humor and humility. There’s nothing wrong with not knowing something. The error is thinking that you can “smell bullshit” accurately in a domain you admittedly know very little about. Second, whatever you think about Michelle Obama, which I can tell is very little, let’s agree the the clip is a small sound bite of a larger conversation. The clip was presented as such PRECISELY because it is being used to trigger a response from you. You know that, right? You had the immediate *sense* that something feels off and you are calling bullshit. But, you don’t know very much about the topic and, and this is important, you don’t know what else was said prior to, or after, this statement. There might have been additional context or information that could help you. There wasn’t, so I’m going to try to do that now.

What distinguishes a woman’s body from a man’s is more than just a vagina which is just the externally visible sex organ. Other parts of the reproductive system include the uterus, fallopian tubes, and ovaries (just to name a few that you might have heard of). Importantly, the ovaries don’t just produce eggs for pregnancy. They produce hormones during menstruation. Say a woman gets pregnant once in her life, the fact that she menstruates EVERY MONTH (between puberty and menopause) should tell you something by the simple ratio of their occurrence. A woman’s body needs these hormones for her overall health (yes, everything from her brain to her bones to her physical stamina and energy levels). The ovaries are *far more* important to a woman’s general health than her vagina, even though both are part of her reproductive system. Understanding this, take a moment to watch the video again and you’ll see that what she’s saying is that you can’t you reduce a woman’s reproductive health to *just* giving birth, and that it is, in fact, “the least important thing about the reproductive system as a whole.”

To really hammer this home, consider that some women never give birth, and yet, their reproductive system is still vital to their general health and well-being on a daily basis. Nothing about what I’ve just written is controversial. That is, unless you don’t know how a woman’s body works. Her point is that lawmakers and politicians, especially religious ones, have about as good of an understanding about women’s health as you do… which is to say, very little. This is not meant to divide us, or insult men, or put women’s needs over anyone else’s.

It’s simply a fact that if you don’t know much about a subject, you should not hold strong opinions about it, and you definitely shouldn’t be legislating on it, or even advising others on what they should do with regards to the topic.

Thanks for your comment. Just to set the table stakes for this discussion, how familiar are you with a woman’s biology? Say on a scale of 1-10. This is not a gotcha, I’m just trying to gauge how to talk with you. As an example, if you are a woman, you might answer 10. Although you may not if you have a low understanding of your own biological processes — many women do. Likewise, if you are a man and you are being honest, you’d probably need to answer less than 5 unless you have spent considerable time studying the subject and/or performed a survey of women with questions about their experiences, at various stages of their lives.

So, where are you at 1-10?

A common mark of an emotionally immature person is that they project themselves onto others. What’s remarkable is how this trait spans national and cultural identities (especially Western ones). A young man from Australia will exhibit low emotional intelligence in very similar ways to a Brit, for example.

Western journalists aren’t conspiring in the way you are describing. Ask yourself, “From which source do each of these figures come?”

Does Hamas differentiate between their fighters and ordinary civilians?

No, they do not.

So ask yourself, “Is the IDF *so fucking bad* at targeting Hamas combatants that *all* of these kills are innocents?” Give the IDF *some* credit. What’s the ratio? 2:1? Even if it’s1:1, that would be tragic, but it would mean that these reported numbers of innocent deaths should be calculated at 50% of what they are reported to be. That’s how math works.

Now, ask, “Why doesn’t Hamas admit that their fighters are being killed in battle?”

If you said, “Because they want the situation to look worse than it is,” you are correct.

Al Jazeera regularly reports the number of deaths inaccurately high.

So much so that *even the Palestinian Authority* has repeatedly placed bans on Jazeera reporting, including earlier this year in the West Bank.

You *are* being lied to, you’re just not correct about who’s most guilty of spreading said lies.

Flash, every day, you expose your ignorance and I’m going to point it out to you with the hopes of making you better at what you do. You may not like it, but if you are going to represent yourself as a fountain of information, you need to be held to account. Perspective matters. Words matter. Case in point, you use the word “claims” to describe what Michelle Obama is “stating.” Do you understand the difference in neutrality between these two words?

Do you understand that when you say she “‘claims men can’t truly understand” you are implying that the claim should be viewed skeptically?

Perhaps you do understand. And you are intentionally using that word because you think what she’s saying should be refuted.

That’s not journalism. That’s you presenting your bias, as a man. The truth is, actually, that she is correct. A woman’s biology (including her reproductive system) does far more for her own body than simply reproduce. The fact that this appears to be a controversial statement *to anyone* only emphasizes how misunderstood a woman’s body is to men both in the medical community and lay people like yourself.

I’m not asking you to cater to me. Rather, if your goal is to expose human suffering, I’m asking you to not be so narrow-minded and, yes, ignorant. You could have, for example, posted about the jihadist suicide bomber that killed 25 people in a church in Damascus.

Your anti-Israel bias is obvious and without a single message against Hamas, and it has become obvious that you support their actions. That’s sickening. There is blame to go around here, and you are only pointing it one way, completely ignoring the evils Hamas perpetrates against the citizens of Gaza. One example would be your focus on what Israel is doing in Gaza, and never what Hamas is doing in Gaza.

Besides if shining a light on human suffering is important to you, why no posts about the violence in Sudan? The body count there is ongoing and worse than anything in the Middle East, and FOR YEARS.

Again, that’s not how it works and not what happened. It’s too complex to state here, which is why most people don’t take the time to understand it (or even have the mental capacity to do so), but here’s a summary: People were given a choice to live in the country as long as they accepted Israel’s right to exist. Many chose yes and they live with happily with civil rights that would not be afforded to them in other Muslim theocracies. Other’s chose to leave.
