This will likely be the last year of damus. Will try my best to make this thing sustainable, but nostr clients don’t make money and I once funding runs dry its over as I can only burn saving for so long. Glad I was able to help play a small part in this regardless of what happens. Going to give it my all next year to try to keep the dream alive. Thanks for coming along for the ride ✌️

Most people understood my sentiments.

And it does seem that a lot of people do agree with it and don’t feel as much a part of the NOSTR community as the few. Perhaps we could all do more to foster that community feeling.

I agree w the sentiment that you’ve gotta give to receive. I use NOSTR in a very focused way. I simply don’t have the time to hang out like the early days, but a lot of people have asked me to continue posting news, so I will.

Far from expecting anything in return or feeling entitled, I wanted to get some feedback on the dynamic here and give other people the chance to voice their opinions.

I thought Threads was a ghost town but at least I get 40-80 likes when I post over there and I only have 7k followers over there.

Many people asked me to post over here but it just doesn’t look like anybody is engaged here.

This is how Twitter seems to be breaking up for me:

- Bluesky is where my journo friends & academics go

- Mastodon is where my IT tech guys go (have gone a while ago)

- And Nostr is the most exciting tech of them all, I think, but, sadly, nobody interesting is there but crypto fans... 🤷

Also you don't "own" the nft. You own a licensing contract to the nft.

Licensing contract can have any amount of restrictions.

NGL most of these third world blockchain solutions sound like some corrupt official was bribed to greenlight another useless X-but-in-the-Blockchain project that a group of investors was looking to dump on a taxpaying public.

Why doesnt the police station simply hash the original document to verify it hasnt been altered? No fees to be paid and no need to pollute a public digital Commons with ephemeral data

I just don't get NFT's. I don't. How many of your friends collect things? Like *really* collect them? Obsess about display cases and acid-free backing and all that shit? Not many right? Why am I supposed to believe that NFT's are no less of a niche thing?

And how the fuck is anyone supposed to believe that these minting events are actually bootstrapping something that will be coveted in the future? Collectibility is an organic story. Something might be collectible because a huge amount of the original issuance was destroyed or there were misprints, etc...etc...hardly anything is collectible because some fuckstick on Twitter ran a few prompts through Stable Diffusion.

One of the things I’m most worried about for later part of 21st century, isn’t climate change or AI, or WW3, it’s that organised crime is the real exponential threat.

The Cartels are operating intercontinental submarines, and Russian cybercriminals are co-opting federal agencies.

Collective blackmail by enemy states is the basis of mutually assured destruction, but not sure how collective blackmail will pan out with transnational criminals?

How do you cope with a “we will release our virus” type of blackmail, if the attack surface is as small as a crime group? Not good.
