That would be useful if I could determine what is spam. Something like Sieve filters for emails would be great. Simple and effective.

As for the spaces “reserved” for topics, I think I managed to get what you’re hinting at by simply following the right users and interacting with them. Not an optimal solution, I know.

Sure is that a virtual place where a single specific subject is discussed would be extremely useful. I hope groups of user will find the way (and the money) to publish and maintain relays dedicated to their subjects of interest. This last solution, that of dedicated relays, could reveal itself to be a hindrance if the financial side of the operation falls prey of the profit religion.

Agreed. It is unfortunate that free minds and courage are in such short supply nowdays... :-)

I’m really liking the distinct Nostr experience vs the Twitter experience. Occasionally I cross-post something on both, but my decision in recent weeks to treat them differently has been very rewarding.

Years ago, I used to post on certain forums. But as someone with a big Twitter following now, I am more self-conscious of what I post there these past few years. It’s like, I feel quite a responsibility before I send something out to 600k followers, rather than being able to treat it rather carefree like I would treat a forum in the old days. Of course, once in a while I get provoked by something or I share something random and funny for no reason, but not usually.

Since the community on Nostr is still smallish, it kind of rekindles that more carefree feeling of just posting, talking. And I post less about economics, which is my main Twitter silo.

And because I want open protocols like Nostr to succeed, I deliberately want to be here, posting. So it is a win-win; I try to add value but also it scratches an itch for me that hasn’t been scratched in a while.

Maybe if/when Nostr becomes large, it will recreate that sense of filtering that I have on Twitter. But I would still consider that a success, because it means Nostr succeeded and I at least got to experience a smaller social environment for another period of time.

My take on data privacy.

Many in the space suggest adopting self-hosted solutions like Umbrel and the like. While I fully understand that owning your own data is a desirable thing, I cannot fail to notice that such solutions leave you vulnerable to the worst actor out there, which is the state. This is because it has the power and the will to confiscate your equipment, and we all know that it is just a matter of time after that, before you are doomed. Running such services on a remote host is not much different.

I wonder than if finding "trusted" open source third parties with which you can communicate via local encryption (meaning that they cannot see anything) is not a better solution, although of course not optimal.

Relay already have that power. You can publish your notes to multiple relays and relays that do a bad job will naturally be used less. Unlike in the fediverse where followers hold users hostage to their admins. More moderation code is coming to relays whether you like it or not so best to make one that is really transparent, open source and make standards to make it clear what is happening.

The government thinks they own you, your identity, your money, time and effort.

Many attached to this system see no failures in this and wish to propagate the government.

At one point, the government served us as a people. That time is no longer. Governments everywhere are corrupt.

Fiat money touches everything. As a result, it ruins many beautiful things.

Government money will not make you sovereign.

Only stacking sats will bring the keys to escape the current regime.

Bitcoin makes you Sovereign by taking those concepts of ownership out of the hands of the powers that be, and into yours.

Self-ownership is a big responsibility. No one is coming to save you. You have to also own up to your mistakes when you are sovereign. Rarely do we see a government assume responsibility for their errors.

Bitcoin promotes self-ownership. Freedom from the fiat machine. By using it, storing it, educating about it, you are pushing forth a new paradigm, where freedom can be enjoyed by all.
