It isn't as if I am opposed to it. It's the same as self-custody with base layer btc, most people are just not going to do it. They want payments at least as easy as credit cards. They arent going to leave X for Nostr either, people don't want to deal with private/public keys & relays. They don't want to generate seeds and make transactions with a hardware device, they'd much rather have a bank or custodian do it for them. They don't want the hassle of opening Lightning channels either. I just don't see Lightning being used widely beyond a small percentage of people that self custody their own btc. Maybe I will be proven wrong, who knows, I just don't see it beyond a niche payment system.
There's no way Lightning is going to be used by the masses. It's fine for Nostr and bitcoiners buying coffee but it just isn't good enough for large scale which is a shame but I don't see that changing. Incremental improvements will continue no doubt but it's never going to be used widely.
Well tbh I don't really care sbout zaps. Moving zaps back & forth between users on Nostr isn't a particularly great use-case imo though of course on the wider internet being able to zap on different sites would be good. Besides, Lightning has a LONG way to go before that can happen. Those channel closures are not cool at all.
Yeah for some reason my node went down, the channel closed & there was no explanation as to why & I lost some sats. I only use Lightning for zaps on Nostr so I thought fuck it I'm not going to lose more sats to that again so I haven't opened another channel but maybe I could go with a cloud based option.
When I was growing up in northern England it was quite popular but it was called potholing. I never heard the term spelunking until I came to the US.

He wouldn't be doing that if he wasn't strapped on though. Makes it a little less "thrilling"
Unfortunately, I have to say this again:
US election infrastructure isn't perfect and there's still work to do to make it more secure. But there is simply no credible evidence that the 2020 election outcome was altered through technical attacks, despite exhaustive scrutiny.
Shortly after the 2020 election, when these discredited claims were first raised, 58 of my colleagues and I issued this statement:
https://www.mattblaze.org/papers/election2020.pdf .
Nothing we've learned since then alters my assessment.
Also no credible evidence that Trump & Putin teamed up so Trump could win the 2016 election (btw I voted for Hillary).
And why is gold going up?
Maybe buy some gold too as a hedge 👍
This is so dumb. If these people are really concerned with anonymity then don't appear in public conferences. It's all an ego thing really, making themselves feel special and different. 🙄
I guess that's why you make those bets with Peter but keep losing them 🤷♂️
He had been a heavy smoker, that is often a way to short cut your life expectancy.
I can't find a RSS feed for it. If it's just a channel on YT then it's not a podcast! Come on Tuur, get a feed together so I can download it on my podcast player 👍
We still haven't got half way to your $300k prediction from 4-5yrs ago.
How much time do you spend on Nitter everyday?
We don't even have full self-driving cars yet, they said we'd have those AND trucks by now. If you have to change the definition of AGI then it's obviously not AGI, and real AGI isn't going to be here this decade.
This is Yuki.
She was rescued from being euthanized after her owner dropped him off at a shelter for getting too big. DNA results show that he is 87.5% Gray Wolf, 8.6% Siberian husky, and 3.9% German shepherd.

What a beautiful animal! Too many good dogs getting needlessly euthanized. Lucky Yuki 👍
