24β x 30β Mixed Media Canvas Update: much closer to final
Spent most of the day working on this in batches on the lower half of the canvas.
Added white tissue paper to the cloud areas. Added painted green strips of tissue paper to the mountain areas.
Sponged white + parchment acrylic paint into the cloud areas, then used my finger to create smoother/rounder tops, as the sponge tip marks looked too ragged.
Light wash of black over the dragon body to darken.
Very happy with how the lower half ended up. Now just need to repeat all of that for the top half.
And decide what to do about the sky β¦ if anything.

Well it's kind of finished.
There are things I dislike. There are things I accomplished not so well.

If I rest from it and get more energy perhaps I can continue polishing and finishing. But it might be done for now.
Nice! If you use hashtags like #art and #artstr more folk can see your work.
Finally made it to our Patagonia spot after a long journey south! Arrived at 2am on a Saturday, carefully de-rigged the kayak from my truck, and crossed the high-water river in pitch darkness to reach our place.

What greeted me was wild - trees down everywhere on the property! One crashed onto our shed, but thankfully the dome stayed intact. Nature had definitely been busy while we were gone.

First week was pure manual labor - clearing brush and getting camp operational again. Used the low water days strategically to ferry across new materials and solar panels.

Major win: our dome weathered everything perfectly. No mold, no mice, all locks intact. Pretty impressive for being alone in the wilderness!

Daily life here is... different. I work my day job from the computer (turns out being on a remote island is great for productivity) Then tackle camp projects during dawn and dusk. For me itβs a perfect balance.

But here's where it got intense... One morning I discovered our Cataraft - our lifeline for materials - had broken free and was heading straight for 15km of Class 5 rapids! π±

Talk about luck - a friend spotted it caught in trees 1km downstream. Immediately grabbed my kayak and raced to the rescue. Found it tangled in branches, still loaded with milled wood!

The dome's becoming quite the paradox - running water, electricity, comfy futon sofas right in the middle of the wilderness. From tents to a functional house in just a season. Feeling proud and grateful.

Now pivoting attention to installing new solar panels and breaking ground on 2 smaller bedroom domes for friends and family. Summer's looking epic! Can't wait to keep building and soaking in this incredible place. π

Beautiful dome interior! Thanks for the photos & videos.
Thanks! The elevator pitch is James Herriot in a D&D-like world. The title is All Creatures Dire and Tiny. πΆπ
So those chipboard tags I bought so many years ago are ideal for the art project I want to do that I no longer need the envelopes I was originally searching for when I found the chipboard tags.

GE! I want to finish editing my fantasy novel so I can sell it for sats in January. Will put up the first few chapters for free so folks can see if they want the rest of the story. π
π« hope your tomorrow is less poopy π©
Iβm not brave enough to live in a van. Which has nothing to do with these photos, other than that they were taken by someone who did have the courage for that lifestyle.

24β x 30β Mixed Media Canvas Update: all about the values
Been ignoring this one for too long. Got tired of trying different ways to keep white white (would turn yellow near the mountains.)
1. In an effort to not start from scratch, I used gel matte medium to glue a layer of beige tissue paper over the canvas, maybe create a barrier. The tissue paper tore β¦ so I tore it some more β¦ and really liked the results. This piece was fun to work on again.
2. And I noticed how bad my values were; the range of dark to light, if viewed in only black and white.
Limited values make a piece less easy to βreadβ - see distinct objects.
Taking photos of your art and turning them monochrome is a great way to measure the values because youβre not distracted by the colors.
3. So now Iβm working on increasing the lightness of the mountains and the darkness of the dragon.

Thanks! Forwarded to Boyfriend; he loves this kind of stuff.
Some oranges, for Orange of the November Art challenge.
The paper is not the best for absorbing water or watercolors. But I think it still turned out interesting.

Boyfriend loved that movie. I was very confused.
Thanks for your initial note with the βgo through your followers listβ recommendation. I had done that, but apparently needed to do it again (and keep doing it), including scrolling all the way down. Found folks to follow that I thought I had and new folks waaaay at the bottom of the list that Iβd never seen before. ππ«
