Good question--partly because they are subservient to Google and don't want to anger them.

But if they're touting freedom and open source, and then turn around and say you need Google Play Services...well...it's pretty clear they're just pandering...

Do the right thing #Fedi - start truly supporting privacy by not using Google Play Services.

#GrapheneOS is putting pressure on Google--so should everyone in the open source community.

I've watched the Fedi annoucement video and it's cool and well made and inspiring.

But still I have no clue about how Fedi the company is going to make money.

Maybe they'll use their earned reputation to build a Bitcoin bank? No idea, but I've always wondered how companies like that can go years without any monetization avenue. Do you have more clues than I have?

Can't support them if they require Google Play Services (which they do).

Have to be privacy focused, and GPS remains the antithesis of that.

Good morning nostr friends, today we'll be heading to church, then i'll be starting the turnover at the bnb cabin. So just a typical Sunday for us. I looked at my calendar this morning and i had written a note to myself that its time to start putting out orange halves for the orioles, so i guess its almost time for them to start migrating through here. We love watching orioles, and last year we got some pretty good pics of them. Then that got me thinking that its getting kinda close to autumn again, how time flies. Well, I was able to order a TTGO T-Display S3 from aliexpress for about $30 IIRC...flashing it was pretty straightforward.

If you can do without a printed case, I'd recommend that...really a fun little gadget to play around with.

The US just recommended a 30-year prison sentence for alleged Bitcoin Fog operator Roman Sterlingov.

Sterlingov's case became known as the case to "put cryptocurrency tracing on trial", as much of the evidence presented was collected using Chainalysis' blockchain analysis software Reactor – The prosecution "haven’t pointed to any smoking-gun digital evidence retrieved from Sterlingov’s possessions or devices", as WIRED reported following Sterlingov's arrest.

Chainalysis described Sterlingov's guilty verdict as setting precedent for "Chainalysis blockchain analytics being used by prosecutors as evidence when they take criminals to court", arguing that the verdict "affirms the ways in which our solutions have become the industry standard, made possible by our partners in government who use our tools everyday to fight illicit activity".

The only problem: experts believe that the government's got the wrong guy, and that the jury has convicted a user of Bitcoin Fog as its operator – arguing that Chainalysis' tools are "flawed" and "shouldn't be trusted to convict defendants when they face decades in prison".

2024 is the year of dangerous precedents in which not just your right to privacy is on the line, but the very question of how much science matters in a court of law when it comes to BTC.
