Just finished reading The Genesis Book by nostr:npub1art8cs66ffvnqns5zs5qa9fwlctmusj5lj38j94lv0ulw0j54wjqhpm0w5
I knew the gist of the history, but this book really put it all together in a fascinating way.
Personally, my take away is this:
It's clear that the people who built the foundations for Bitcoin understood one thing very well:
Bureaucrats would never accommodate / allow for the existence of what they wanted to build.
They knew that if they built it, and it worked, the bureaucrats would eventually come for them.
Now it's working.
And I think we'd do well to remember this, and remind new people of this insight that was so well understood by those early pioneers:
No amount pandering will suffice.
If what we want is freedom and decentralized money, we are fundamentally at odds with the most powerful people in the world.
They will not allow us to fit in, not for as long as the tool we have at our disposal has the ability the shift the balance of power.
Heard him chat with Peter WBD and the book sounded like a great read to clarify my understanding of the pieces that came together for BTC. Will get into reading it soon.

Really enjoyed Jimmy Song breaking down his thesis for Fiat money, the misalignment of capital allocation and our grubby position as a result. 47min total, but it was about a third in and for 20mins

Lyn said a heap of it, but I just appreciated their candour with spending a handful of minutes addressing real, lingering challenges to Bitcoin, and especially the ‘Bitcoin is inevitable’ narrative (which I don’t actually hear heaps, but sometimes I think it, so it must be seeping in from what I listen to and read)

Framed this way, the petrodollar has the very bad side for America- tying themselves to a region that sets up the forever wars, major overspending on defence (the US prior to the WWs of sitting quietly and build with oceans for passive defence), and a shift away from manufacturing, leading to outsourcing and then over reliance on, say, China.
