Letting banks issue paper money that was supposed to represent a physical amount of stored gold led to banks issuing more paper than they had gold. Long story short, this mess led to the eventual establishment of modern day FIAT.
Now we are going to have financial institutions issue digital tokens that are supposed to represent a real stored amount of USD. You expect me to believe they won’t issue more tokens than they have USD?
Entrusting financial institutions who know the taxpayers will bail out any fraudulent activity is not a good plan.
Yeah I’m not convinced they actually hold all that gold.
Sometimes I wonder if the major exchanges issue more “bitcoin” to retail than they actually hold under the assumption that most people won’t take it off the exchange.

It seems like isolationism will be making a return, but that is only in the short-term. Tariffs will be proven to be a disastrous policy in the modern era. What we are actually witnessing is the death of American dominated globalism, and hopefully it can be replaced by a decentralized truly global form of free trade and exchange of information/goods.
The Internet, AI, fast transportation, and blockchain technologies allow for a “decentralized globalization”, where the world becomes more interconnected without concentrating power in the hands of the elite.

Just a mere few months ago, I was talking to some people about how Peter Zeihan does a good job explaining what a post-American multipolar world would look like, but I couldn’t fathom that the Americans would willingly dismantle the post WW2 trade order they established that kept them so dominant. I knew American power was declining, but I didn’t expect the American government to accelerate their own decline.
Now that Trumps in office and doing exactly what Zeihan described, turning more isolationist and waging trade wars on allie, I think it is inevitable that we see an end to the American dominated free trade order by the end of the century.
