Nicola Sturgeon is clearly enjoying life after politics, going to the gym and taking bookings for all manner of engagements: the only problem is, she's not actually resigned as an MSP.
Perhaps the former First Minister still wields such a fearsome reputation in the SNP that nobody has the guts to tell her that she's supposed to step down before embarking on a career as a second-rate variety act. And then there's the awkward fact that if a failed politician is going to flog themselves as a public speaker, then the public might expect them to actually speak about issues from their career.
Such as, in Sturgeon's case, the gender reforms and legislation she introduced and the wider drive she led to embed transgender self-identification at all levels of public life in Scotland. Sadly, more than a week after the Supreme Court ruled that a woman – in the eyes of the law – was a biological female and not a bearded fella in a dress, we are yet to hear from this equalities trailblazer.
On Easter Monday, the Glasgow Southside MSP posted a selfie of her working out at the gym, prompting the satirical Scottish social media account 'Brian Spanner' to quip: "Pontius Pilates". This clever remark – referencing Easter, fitness classes and the betrayal felt by many women under Sturgeon – was retweeted by JK Rowling, who famously once wore a T-shirt bearing the slogan: 'Nicola Sturgeon, destroyer of women's rights'.
Rowling, who celebrated the Supreme Court ruling on her superyacht in the Bahamas, also took aim at 11 Westminster politicians including Sir Keir Starmer, David Lammy and Angela Rayner, all of whom have previously said that trans women are women.
She said: "Will any of them issue an apology or admit that they made a serious error in siding with well-funded activist groups lying about what the law actually said, and which had measurable, severe impact on some of society's most vulnerable women?"
I wouldn''t desrcibe the krankies as a second rate variety act... they were never that good.. 😁😁
Ive had the same day. Just burned out from a hetic few weeks.
I've learned to surf the wave 🏄♀️
Tbe US 🇺🇸 when applying for a visa. Though i think its more for long term stays like student visas rather than tourist ones.
Not exactly, more a case of using proportional representation for the popular vote.
But like life, becareful what you wish for.
Apparently Mossad are everywhere all at once. Might be worth an e-mail or pager ping ??
🤣
If you really want a laugh this will.
I'm in the UK. Some of my more lefty acquaintances suppoert proportional representation as a voting system.
They also hate Donald Trump.
I had a lot of fun in 2016 pointing out he won the the electrol college.
And the electrol college is a proportianal representation sytem...
Many, many, many tears... 🤣🤣🤣
Oil seed rape is also a heavy honey crop but the honey sets in the frames pretty quick 😒
The gorse is in flower at the moment and a mile or 2 away there are fields of oil seed rape so the honey will be flowing fast soon 👍🏻
It's nice to feel vindicated. I worked with a group about 10 years ago working on local food initiatives. This was a suggestion, but it got shot down.
The argument was the people we were "helping" cant afford the ingredients so we shouldn't charge for a food bag.
My argument people dont value free stuff fell on deaf ears.
Wish I'd thought of this approach now 😁
Just listened to an interview with the founder of this organisation: https://bagsoftaste.org/
Apparently if you do cooking classes for people (who don’t cook), only 8% of the recipes ever get made again, but if you do cooking classes and then sell people a bag of portioned out ingredients (£3 for four portions) then 89% of them use the ingredients, so now she has a system where they deliver the ingredients and there’s a WhatsApp group with a mentor who gives advice to the members.
Clever idea.
Interview: https://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/m002b70s
Participants receive a bag of food to their door with all the ingredients for seven meals, three recipes and all the materials required for to take part in the two week course which is delivered remotely to their phone. Since launching in 2014 Bags of Taste has taught over 14,000 people and delivered 100,000 meals.
That's a good job well done. By having the actual food to cook with takes of the pressure of knowing your buying the right thing, and the incentive is not seeing it go to waste 👍🏻
