Shipped a relatively bug free Nos to the App Store. Facilitated the pivot to Communities.

It’s ok - I’m not sure what they will do so you may want to re-register. I’ll check with them on Monday to verify as it is after hours now

One other thing to note, please register with a real name - the event will be checking people in at the door. Even if it’s just a first name. We’re not doing the checking - so you can maintain your anonymity with us.

The event is for journalists to learn about decentralized social media as a tool for bottom up rewiring of the media ecosystem.

We will have a journalist historian and open web advocate speaking as well as a journalist who works primarily with journalists in authoritatian regimes to talk about the needs of these folks.

I’m rounding things out with an overview of decentralized protocols and questions journalists should ask themselves when choosing where to spend their time on the decentralized web.

Some context that folks here might not be aware of: The NYC journalism community expermented with crypto journalism 5-6 years ago on a project called CIVIL and it did not go well. The focus of this event will be primarily on Nostr as a result.

We are working with journalists in the Journalism Accelerator program when they are ready to try out zaps in Nostr. I finished a call 10 minutes ago with one publication that is now ready to check them out.

If you know journalists who might be interested please encourage them to attend! Happy to have you and others in the area come if you are interested. Please register using the link!

I don’t think the creators will come if they have to wait for 1 million people to show up. Nos.social has been recruiting creators for a couple of months now and it’s slow going in part because the zaps are low. If you net out at the end of a week with 500 zaps that’s $0.30 USD. Creating content takes a HUGE amount of work. I do the bare minimum for nos and it is a giant time suck from my day. I don’t even make videos or live stream.

Among the things Nostr has going for it - it did not emerge from Silicon Valley and nor is it tied to SV in a binding way. Which is exciting for several reasons, but the biggest as this article points out is that there is a dearth of innovation emerging from Silicon Valley and the US in general. https://www.garbageday.email/p/american-digital-backwater

Know a great UX Designer who is looking for their next role? nostr:npub1pu3vqm4vzqpxsnhuc684dp2qaq6z69sf65yte4p39spcucv5lzmqswtfch is hiring a Lead UX Designer for a 6 month Contract. https://nos.social/career/contract-lead-ux-designer

Country borders no. Private property on a small scale. Balaji wants to take over parts of SF and restrict who can enter. That is not freedom. There is a massive crisis of migration bc of western wars (Middle east > Europe) and climate change (central America > USA) and even in the US we have a housing crisis bc its become a commodity rather than a right. Instead of solving the problem Balaji wants to hide from it while also exacerbating it.

The fact that capital moves freely and people can’t is a global problem. It is fueling the concentration of wealth globally.

There’s no freedom if certain parts if the population can’t access parts of the city etc. It’s a return to feudalism at best and at worst its a dystopian hellscape future.

Wait is this the Balaji that wants to put tech workers in Grey shirts in SF to distinguish them from the rest of the population? If so i don’t think that guy is into any sort of freedom.

This feels accurate. Ironic the Democrats dont want to let democracy happen in the primaries.

This past weekend we went to see a classical guitarist play in an old natural cement mine. The acoustics and ambience were amazing.

Do I need to be an expert or have a large following?

- No, this is a great opportunity for emerging creators who want to expand their network on Nostr.

What types creators should apply?

- Artists, musicians and photographers because we all need more art and they need some zaps!

- Hobbyists who are passionate about their craft. Love to garden? Fix old cars? Repair watches? Want to share your passion with others? Apply!

- Knowledge creators / curators. We have some great curators in the program today including nostr:npub1a2a85jwde32zjsjk02ujasydqc3t2w9rfgfe97amm0r4d9mepfxsxf3fnn who posts both original and curated content about all things women’s health and nostr:npub12cat0ar0xq8fy68u5z3fyaksvt2h0lgqmrd5v4djlmyejj3j3ktsa7yqpp for the latest sports news from around the globe.

- Game streamers / music streamers - I know there are some gamers on Nostr who would love to remain in network to learn from others.
