Izzy's repo will provide uodates quicker than the default F-Droid repo. Normally this isn't a huge deal but Nostr clients are updating super often. I installed Nostros, Amethyst, Plasma, Nostrid & Nozzle from their respective repos and use Obtainium to keep them up-to-date.

I'm the only user on my instance. I didn't want to deal with shitty admins and having entire instances blocked. So instead of crying about it, I solved it and control what I see. The only instances that have ever blocked me are full of trannies and mentally ill people, so I'm ok with them blocking me. Fedi has lots of issues sure but it isn't dead. Once more people start using Nostr all the idiots and weirdos will make it over and we'll see some of the same issues here as well.

I think it could be worth looking into. I've added close to 50 relays to Nostros and it was still butter smooth. I don't mean to bash on Amethyst, I'd just like to see performance improve.
I use 11 or 12 paid relays and rarely am I able to comfortably use the app. If I add a free relay at all it's completely pointless for me to to open the app. I do wish it was useable for me as I prefer it other than the performance issues. Could not loading everything into memory solve this? Using a local database to serve data and deamon for relay communication similar to how Nostros handles things?

I think so. Amethyst is almost unusable on my device. A hot laggy mess. I like how it looks but that's all it has goijg for it, imo. Plasma seems like itb could become a good client once it gains more features.
I've uninstalled Amethyst. Horrible client. It looks nice but that's about it. It's been unusable on my device with a sd712 & 8gb ram.
