On a flight back from vacation and theyāre handing out āgourmetā snacks. First thing i read thatās in it is some kind of seed oil and a bunch of ingredients I have never heard of. How do you guys stay away from eating processed junk when travelling?

I think the mechanical action with a toothbrush is what works best to disrupt the plaque and reduces your risk of decay. Youāve nailed it with the lack of sugar in your diet honestly.
Anything that feels smooth to your fingers. Brand agnostic
I see evidence of this stuff every day in the real world. You missed the point of the post my guy :)
Something controversialā¦or not really! FLUORIDE and Toothpaste.
Well, this was something that was honestly shoved down our throats back in dental school. Youād learn the chemistry, the science etc etc. so you could simply parrot it back to patients.
As a dentist, I think its efficacy is overblown and I donāt see a reason for it to be in the water. What concerns me more is the absolute GARBAGE they put in the toothpastes. The Colgates, Oral-Bs of the world all generally have some kind of abrasive in them. Itās like brushing your teeth with sand. And guess what, if itās any of that charcoal crap or claims to be a āwhiteningā toothpaste you may as well brush with sand. Toothpaste should feel like smooth peanut butter to your fingers.
Let me know if you guys enjoyed this and want more dental related stuff.

Haha no worries! Was just an appreciative message from a fellow dentist š
Sent you a PM a while ago. Not a bot :)
This is possibly the funniest thing I have read all day! šš
For sure! Feel free to DM.
Iād love to accept it but Iām in a fairly small town and a lot of my patients are older so thereās still a decent barrier there. I still get paid by physical cheque sometimes haha!
Ever been told by your dentist you GRIND your teeth? Read onā¦
Signs of grinding show up gradually on your teeth in the form of loss of tooth enamel.
Your teeth become shorter as you age. So what?
In all honesty and it might sound odd coming from a dentist, BUT we donāt really need our own teeth to live long lives. So many of our grandparents lived into their 90s having worn dentures since they were in their 20s.
Grinding though is a sign of bigger trouble with our systemic health. Hereās the biggest reason why:
SLEEP š¤š“š
it can be a sign that youāre not getting quality air (and quality sleep) through your nose when youāre sleeping. The body has to compensate. It pushes the lower jaw forward to in order to open up our airway to get more air in. Guess whatās in the way? Teeth! This is happening numerous times while youāre sleeping and over time you start to see the damage to the teeth. The solution to fixing the grinding and more importantly the sleep lies in fixing the cause (and generally not one of those biteguards you likely wonāt wear at night lol). Getting a sleep study done and seeing a sleep physician is a great place to start.
This is a discussion I have with my patients on a daily basis. As a dentist, I would stand to benefit more financially by prescribing you that biteguard because the insurance company will pay for it and the broken money incentives are aligned that way. But this is NOT what is the best health/preventive outcome for the patient. The incentives for healthcare need to change!
Let me know if you found this valuable in any way. Iāll try to get on here and post as much as I can if people find this stuff interesting/valuable. I have some thoughts on health insurance.

Hahahaha Iāll have keep my fiat job for now š
The trouble with teeth is that cavities donāt hurt until the bacteria is close to/into the nerve. The nerve will try to protect itself but eventually it gets overrun by the bacteria and pain/infection develops. In saying that, some of the early cavities are reversible with good oral hygiene. There is definitely a conflict of interest though. Our weak money creates an incentive where the dentist or physician is incentivized to treat disease more than we are incentivized to prevent it!
Hello everyone, I recently joined NOSTR.
I have over a decade experience as a dentist so if you have any teeth related questions feel free to reach out!
