Socialize my kids? I don't want my children to become socialists.
Sure... untold numbers of children not in the school system are making the kids who are in the school system worse off. Right.
I'm beginning to think that they don't.
All I see is more theft and extortion. When are we going to get allies into congress to roll back these illegitimate and unjust rulers' dictates?
When will dollars to Sats become the more convenient measure? It's getting there for me. Will it be at 100sats/USD ($1M/BTC)?
It's not really difficult if you're always in it, but it would help the unit cost fallacy for newcomers to see pricing in sat versus BTC.
For one, replacing the phone number system with an open protocol not captured by big tech.
Apparently, there's a NIP for that π
Lame! My wife's AT&T phone connection is having real issues today. Now, she's locked out of texting and calling. We need a Nostr replacement for talk.
I think a system that uses Nostr to perform a handshake, starting with a request to talk event, an accept event, then the two devices negotiate a VoIP route to conclude the handshake.
I have two options:
1. A business-in-a-box platform to help people gain freedom from corporatism that allows sharing of courses and materials between members, and based on Nostr+Bitcoin so it's fully self-owned (no more paying big tech and giving them your data)
or...
2. An earth ship village or complex with a shared garden system so we can share labor but not exchange money and feed ourselves off our land tax-free and be interdependent locally but independent of the state. It'll have annualized solar heat (thermal battery charged by concentrated sunlight in the summer and water/steam discharge for the winter), and a highly efficient structure using local materials and/or foam concrete.
It wouldn't abolish usury, but only help. Usury and it's admissibility in society is dependent on the idea that the man in need owes those with means more than was given to begin.
There is a balance, I believe, because it is better for the poor man to gain decent abode for his family and pay a little more for it over time than to save and save and only acquire it once his children are grown, but this can be accomplished without taking advantage of his need and capturing him into perpetual debt.
I kept looking. Stumbled upon Phoenix chat but could never get it to work, and the same with Element/Matrix. I never got the motivation to build it myself, but I might have attempted eventually.
It's the same with Bitcoin. I thought that money needed to be decentralized. I saw how credit card processors were the always middle man who would basically have half the money after just 20-30 transactions, and I thought to myself "psshhh! It's just a ledger! I can do better than that!" Then I found bitcoin and was like "dang! He beat me to it..."
Yikes is this actually true? Or psyops? π€

Yeah, I believe it.
It's interesting that nostr:nprofile1qy08wumn8ghj7mn0wd68yttsw43zuam9d3kx7unyv4ezumn9wshsz8mhwden5te0dehhxarj94ex2mrp0yhxummtda6xzun09e3k7mf0qythwumn8ghj7un9d3shjtnwdaehgu3wvfskuep0qqswuyd9ml6qcxd92h6pleptfrcqucvvjy39vg4wx7mv9wm8kakyujgw3tmmj , nostr:nprofile1qyvhwumn8ghj76r0v3kxymmy9ehx7um5wgcjucm0d5hszxnhwden5te0wpuhyctdd9jzuenfv96x5ctx9e3k7mf0qqsf03c2gsmx5ef4c9zmxvlew04gdh7u94afnknp33qvv3c94kvwxgsq29me0 and nostr:nprofile1qy2hwumn8ghj7un9d3shjtnyv9kh2uewd9hj7qg3waehxw309ahx7um5wgh8w6twv5hszrnhwden5te0dehhxtnvdakz7qpqlunaq893u4hmtpvqxpk8hfmtkqmm7ggutdtnc4hyuux2skr4ttcqmkg28z were all working on their own decentralized/censorship-resistant apps before they decided to move to Nostr.
I kept thinking "man! We need some sort of new social media deal that's not owned by big tech, like an email or RSS based system, maybe with some crypto type tech thrown in" for years before nostr.
On a video chat with a casual professional group (SJ npub1jrxw5cqv6ej7kdg0fys8s2qaf2sv5zquplycueg48j7av6crmstqzvcrhp is part of that group), and we have a cyber security insurance guy on as a speaker. The two things I really see as not solvable with Bitcoin is social engineering and bad IT security. Stealing keys will be a real thing, and getting people to send Bitcoin to the wrong address will be, too. There's only so much you can do to help others keep their coins secure.
Air gapped hardware wallets will prevent bad actors from directly accessing it, but they can still send fraudulent invoices to the company accountant or owner, and fake emails can be sent with fraudulent payment instructions.
What have you thought of to combat social engineering? #askNostr
I hope and pray so
I think Bitcoin will help us eliminate usury over the long term, because if we can make it the standard our system won't be founded on debt and usury. It will at least make fractional reserve banking less viable and thus stabilize the lending system to no longer unfairly favor those who know how to game it.
In the years since 1971, the loan amounts for home, auto, college, etc. has exploded, rendering savings untenable, especially because the depreciation inherent to fiat currency.
An appreciating currency will reduce the desire to lend it, and thus increase interest rates and decrease loan longevity, which will make the total value of loans to go down, and with it prices also, making savings much more viable.
Very true, but on what time scale? The black death wiped out a third of Europe, so the market was quite weak during that period. I'm saying now that we may have something of a similar sort happen to our time, a not-always-possitive trend. It'll recover, and I expect within my lifetime, but in the next few or several years? It remains to be seen, especially if we have nuclear war.
That will mean $100M/BTC, which won't happen until hyperinflation/dollar crash, which may be in the middle of WWIII
