Most of it already exists (nostr wine relay) except the for me most important part, perfect filtering based on my personal preferences.

idea: 1984 events can be published by relays and other relays may find those meaningful and adjust their filtering. i know this is a slippery slop towards going total censorship but small relays may find this useful. if i am doing a good job of removing the dicks, other relays may want to see that opinion, still form their own but also take an average of everybody's opinion.

Yeah, that's the part I don't love, but it's probably inevitable.

All weekend I heard, "pick better relays" as the dicks were flying. When a newcomer comes on board, why wouldn't they pick Damus and Primal as their relays? They are two of the most popular clients, why wouldn't their relays be higher quality too? So if someone was to break away from them, how would they actually determine a good relay without some terms. Wine does a pretty good job with this, the rest, not so much.

We use community outboxes. Everyone in the community reads and writes to the same relay(s), and those relays distribute and pull from other relays on the server side. And those community relays are actively moderated by machines and humans.

And we encourage people to also have a personal relay, and/or a local one.

This is why I only use one relay on mobile.

There's no reason why relays need to be big, is the thing.

I mean, I surf the kind 01 feed and can see people freaking out for days, now. Don't need a report, to see what your Nostr frens are saying.

This stuff drags on for days or weeks, at a time. Some relays never have it (write-protected), some only have it for a few minutes or max a day or two (attentive operators), and some have it for days and weeks...

The nostrich.house stuff is still circulating, and it's been months.

That sounds like a lot of work, but the users actually start hollering about this stuff within seconds and we see that and can start banning and analyzing. None of this stuff is random.

Everyone who is slow to pull it, is just not really using Nostr heavily.

You don't carry any good stuff that the others don't also carry, is the thing. But you carry a lot of total garbage and data fluff.

Some relays are so full of junk and horrors, so it's hard for them to pinpoint some particular unappetizing thing. That's why they just leave it there. They'd never finish, if they tried to identify crypto spam, reply bot spam, hardcore gay porn, kiddie porn, snuff porn...

That's like half of their user base, right there. LOL That's why their relays have gigantic user numbers, but if you write something, nobody responds.

Find a relay operator, who isn't trying to make money off of hosting that stuff, and you won't see that stuff. This is not brain surgery, people.

In Settings, set UI Mode to Complete - that will show the relays an incoming note used, under the picture of the user on the note. For example, your note shows an enfurred and bespeckled (yes autocorrect, that's a word) dude, and directly under it are relays - I see nostr.mom, nos.lol, and bitcoiner.social . The spam shows that too. If you remove the relays it shows, then the spam can't reach you.

The relay operators need to implement some kind of filter to prevent spam and retain users. It looks like nos.lol did exactly that yesterday, but idk about any others.
