“I believe there are many more optimistic pathways for AI outcomes than pessimistic” …
…until there is not.
Moore's law divided by 2 would be a good rule of thumb to allow AI the ability to mature enough to show if it is going in a direction that could lead to trouble
However the biggest problem with AI is not the AI itself but rather the people making that decision.
I am glad the freeist most censor resistant platform is at least still on the radar
I am glad that the only limit here is in what is posted not what can be posted
The fact that something happened is absolutely objective the reason why always subjective
want in one hand and 💩in the other and find out which one fills up first I guess
If it doesn’t exist you can’t sell it
If you can’t sell it you can’t get people to build it
If you can’t build it it won’t exist
Such a vicious cycle
I want iPhone level hardware and polished software in a open source project
Although full secure bitcoin wallet (w/optional hardware signing key), lightning payments and nostr messaging as an imbeded direct feature of the OS might just give it the legs it would need to really shift the conversation for all of those involved.
Just think a GrapheneOS pixel driven mining pool that activates when the phone is plugged in and has an +80% charge.
Sure it might just be penny distribution but wow could be a game changer jump to the a solid #3 spot in the personal connectivity device market.
Yes, I love the possibilities of a true open secure OS that takes full advantage of hardware. But with borrowed hardware and most importantly a borrowed software echosystem, It will be an up hill battle falling short of potential.
Nothing truly worth doing is easy so good luck.
I am still waiting for the year of linux when it becomes more than just a niche OS. There is an amazing echosystem and vast hardware support and yet still suffers in obscurity.
All because of two culprits:
* Apple

only thing worse than apple is google.
One wants to use you for all you are worth, the other does the same and sells what it can use directly to the higher bidder.
Good thing this has nothing to due with the new CEO

I wonder if building the ability use Apple Pay to buy Lightning would appease them enough. many apps use in game tokens (as long as you can buy them with Apple Pay) what is Lightning but an in game token as far as they are concerned
sure most people that actually understand what is going on would never use the feature but then some still would (hopefully enough)
For Audible you can’t buy book credits at all in app only via the website. Sure fine amazon has way more $$$ and influence and there are other ways amazon is compensating apple for them to look the other way on this policy proving money and influence is required to play the game #plebs need not apply.
