Got myself out of pfsense hell. Finally got this clusterfk going:

- site-to-site wireguard vpn

- remote access to both sites

- both sites and remote access behind mullvad-vpn with no dns leaks

1. With private I mean that when I interact with my self hosted lightning wallet on my node, no one can find out my IP and find out where I live etc.

2. I don't know if Alby is less/more private than LNC. When something works smoother or better, my head thinks that this may only come with a trade off. And if it works even better, there must be a bigger trade off. That's just how I'm thinking here, but I don't know.

3. Do I "un-private" my private node when connecting to services like LNC or Alby? Is now data flowing through these services that leaves footprints behind about me?

As I'm not technically skilled enough for this, I can't imagine what happens in the background. That's why I asked for a setup where I don't have to worry about this.

For example I bought non-kyc bitcoin. Now I want to spend/earn them in my circular economy. I don't want to worry about that the tax office gets better tracking tools and some day knocks on my door to ask questions.

Man, all of this Alby hate is so weird to me. Nobody wants to run their own node, because it's apparently too hard. So Alby runs one for two years, gives away wallets for free, then builds all of these tools FOR FREE that simplify running your own node. Then they say they're not going to run nodes anymore, but here's all these free tools you can use to do it yourself, and everyone shits on them and calls them rug pullers for not giving away even more of their time, talent, and treasure.

How much code have you contributed to them?

How many sats have any of you people bitching about them moving away from holding your keys ever given them?

v4v is a voluntary exchange, and either party can choose to change the value they provide at any time. Nobody owes you anything, least of all Alby who have been nothing but generous to all of us.

What is pointless is to consider that only something on top is mainstream.

Between those two, Telegram is ranked #3 in the west so it is a defacto mainstream. Whatsapp too, but that isn't really the same as signal.

It isn't a conclusion, it is a comparison.

Signal is not the best mainstream option, because it was never really adopted by mainstream despite being promoted by western governments and left-wing groups, lest not forget it appears plenty even on holywood movies.

Still, Telegram has defacto been the best mainstream option without any of that. It is the non-acceptable option by western governments and yet used so often by the "mainstream" that they had to arrest the founder.

SimpleX is similar garbage to both signal and telegram. There is ZERO benefit in repeating the same mistakes of the past. SimpleX is a small russian company, that now received western funding. There is only ONE client implementation and ONE server provided by default by the same company for "free". In other words, they can easily disable any encryption for the "special" people as done for other options. You can't really verify and your messages aren't decrypted at their servers because you can't even guarantee they haven't stolen your private keys (tip, they are stored locally).

NOSTR is the future.

Hundreds of relays across the globe run by volunteers, dozen and dozens of client implementations and verifiable battle-proven cryptography that govs have a bad day trying to decrypt.

That is the reason why I'm here.
