question for anyone using phoenix wallet:

is it possible to create a receive transaction without an expiry?

under settings > payment options it looks like there’s an “incoming payment expiry” option that only lets you pick from 7, 30 and 60 days

i’m unsure if that means that all receive transactions that i create will then abide by those expiry conditions (i.e. expire after 7 days)?

i might be misunderstanding something, but is there any way to make an unlimited receive without an expiry? context is i want the “static receive address” to put it on my damus / nostr profile so i don’t have to remember to re-put it in every 7 days

but, i’m guessing there’s security / privacy reasons for having receives expire?

could be seriously misunderstanding something here, so would appreciate any help!

anywhere i can find out more info on taro?

remember it first being mentioned as a bullish feature on / to-do-with the lightning network

but i’ve seen a little chatter lately about taro enabling stable coins on lightning which is implied as being a step backwards, because stable coins on lightning is just brining fiat into the bitcoin network

i don’t have an opinion on it all yet, but it would be cool to learn a bit more about taro so i can slowly develop a sound opinion surrounding the issue

could be a cool idea to add something like “twitter lists” to damus, but the list is a list of relays that when selected filter your home feed for posts only from particular relays?

this means that you could be looking at all posts from all relays in your home feed, but then you could select “one of these lists” and the home feed would be filtered to only the posts from your “tailored list of relays” (specific private groups, org like structure, or something like that)?

i could be misunderstanding private relays and their functionality though, haven’t looked into it enough yet!

just less pre-heating time and power used for a single steak in the air fryer compared to the oven was really my only reasoning - lowest it goes is 80C, so i’d just keep it in there for 10-15 mins depending on the thickness, but i think i need to preheat it and lessen the time to get more consistent results, potentially sear before going in the air fryer too (instead of after)

yeah i thought i might have had it all a bit wrong, i just went to their website and saw they offered some paid options to hold cloud keys or something (i.e. a couple different paid tiers) and then made the assumption that they were offering services like casa / unchained

i knew multi-sig could be completely self sovereign, but i didn’t think that’s what was being offered by nunchuck (as you pointed out)

glad to hear that some good UI sits on top of completely self sovereign multi-sig though, i’ll definitely give it a bit more research on my end 👍🏼

yeah, the air fryer needs a pretty tight seal to close to i think it could stop me from doing that, but i’ll give it a try anyway - 10x less the cost of any of the other “wireless” probes, so it’s worth a shot for sure

i’ve been doing pretty much the same thing, except i’d reverse sear in the air fryer (i.e. oven essentially), but it’s so easy to fuck up the timing in the air fryer dependent on the thickness of the cut - and getting it out to check the temp every couple minutes is annoying

i’ve got a ziggler, which is like an australian version of a webber, but it’s a direct heat bbq, it can’t really maintain low temperatures - but i could give it a whirl

ahhh yep, the $200 probes i was referencing were wireless in the sense that they don’t have the metal thread running from the probe to the device

you can just sort of stick it in the meat and then handle your cut as if it’s not even attached to anything - but a heavy price to pay for a little inconvenience i guess

thanking you for all of that info, i’ll definitely invest in a skillet and do some research to make sure i’m treating it / cleaning it well - i’ve heard they’re indestructible and can last generations if you treat them right

and that makes sense that after you’ve done it a few times you sort of get a feel for when you should be taking it out of the pan - some of the cuts the butcher does here are like 2cm-ish, and every time i’ve tried to cook it with direct heat on the bbq it end up over cooked or too rare - cast iron probably holds the heat way better though!!

don’t know if it has already been mentioned (i’d imagine it would have) but just in case it hasn’t: polls on nostr / damus could be cool?

the improved thread view was the game changer for me, and just adding all the different relays so everything was way more consistent

the link previews, image previews, etc. are sort of all the little things that also add to the polish of the experience too

come a long way since two-weeks ago it feels 🤙🏼

i’ve been thinking of getting an iron skillet, do you just have to cook it low and slow for thicker cuts? you can probably get away with a less expensive meat probe that just has an extension lead with this method

and it has the advantage of being pretty quick too - what’s the spatter like with butter / oil all over the kitchen while you cook?

and, what do you like to cook it in? butter, olive oil, something else?

hmmm seems a bit pricey, and it also seems like it would be ideal to have a wireless meat temp probe to just throw into your cut so you can just chuck it in the oven and get notified when it’s all done

could you get similar results with an air fryer, or not at all the same?

hell yeah, what’s the best way to cook a steak do you think?

sous vide seems like best result, but also cooking in plastic seems not ideal

i’ve experimented with reverse searing in oven / air fryer, but i always get such inconsistent results - and spending $200 for a wireless probe (like a meater or whatever) seems steep

hot bbq only works well for thinner cuts, doesn’t get wall-to-wall pink, and is also pretty inconsistent without a wireless meat temperature probe

i just want a simple, relatively quick, consistent way of getting a nice medium or rare steak 🥩

thanking you muchly 😁
