Open source Minnesotan, making Veridian Expanse (@vexpanse). I made the Chipmunk2D physics engine, and some other fun libraries. By day, I do a lot of game adjacent work like therapeutic VR, real time drone mapping, and math for heavy machinery.

Update 3.0: Less than a day after surgery. I’ve been home for a few hours, feeling pretty normal on just ibuprofen and acetaminophen. Avoiding using my abs though, and coughing and hiccups kinda hurt. (but less than before…)

Kinda feel like the whole experience wasn’t that bad luckily. Except when it first started anyway… Uff I was involuntarily shaking, but that went away after a bit so I thought it was just something I ate.

Update: I missed my chance to talk to the radiologist about radon transforms and FFTs relating to CT scans. Also… I have appendicitis. Having surgery is pretty peak Halloween I guess? They even gave me a costume to wear.

Somebody stole some of my blood. That seems very Halloween 🧛, but they were a phlebotomist so I don’t think it counts.

A local gamedev friend of mine has been making neat voxel rendering tech. Basically it lets you make super detailed voxel scenes using more traditional mesh based level tooling. I think he's still looking for projects to collaborate with too.

You can read more about it on his blog:

nostr:npub1gzlededxhz0xmgf5q9a5qswzuwjx0yfl2fx799csjhdnfrgawvksxwkk4u Peer pressure! Though if my wife asks where I disappeared to for several months I'm going to tell her you said it was ok. >_>

nostr:npub1gzlededxhz0xmgf5q9a5qswzuwjx0yfl2fx799csjhdnfrgawvksxwkk4u Fair enough. It's possible that the game I really want is Elite Dangerous, which I bought several years ago and haven't dared to play yet... It sounds like the sort of thing I would get sucked right into. >_>

nostr:npub1l3gpk6vrudg8r67swqlex5alv9ch59s4lw46kk6hekuxe2n3aczsyqvu48 Woah woah woah! You don't just casually offer someone lutefisk in these parts. It's gotta be for a holiday or a church dinner. Though all the church dinners have failed to come back since covid... :(

Last day to fly off the water, and the weather didn’t disappoint. :)

We’ve prototyped some real time biofeedback stuff and the PineTime was one of the wearables we evaluated. It had an ok PPG sensor, but ultimately there were better ready-to-go options.

I think I remember you having complaints about the PineTime's battery life? I just saw that the recent release has a significant battery life optimization: "we were able to reduce the idle power consumption down to around 200µA, where it would use ~900µA previously! The PineTime can now easily run more than 10 days, while it would need to be recharged after 3-5 days previously!"

Might be worth taking a look. I plan to once I get back to the US.
