A Quaker into decentralization, permaculture, simplicity, peace. Exploring the world one step at a time. Seeker of truth, separating facts from fiction. Always curious, often wandering. Here to learn, listen and grow. Opinions are works-in-progress. Will walk long distances for good conversation.

I still remember discovering Duke Ellington as a kid in the 1980s. None of my friends, or their parents for that matter, knew of him. Listening to his music was a secret I could indulge in without worrying about normies ruining it.

"Dwell on the beauty of life. Watch the stars, and see yourself running with them." ~Marcus Aurelius

I've noticed the same. I wonder if a zap is more likely to show up with the zap is through the same client you're viewing. Maybe the zap came from a client you don't use.

"False communities tend to be manipulated by the state, while true community is independent of governmental power....

In false communities the group is always superior to the individual, while in true communities both individual and group have a claim on truth."

Saw the same thing earlier this week. Told my wife no way. Should've asked if they had an option to scan my retina.

Getting ready for sleep with the windows open, listening to black walnuts falling.

Will Ruddick is a founder of Grassroots Economics, an NGO empowering marginalized communities through community currencies. In "Food Forests + Community Currencies" they discuss using community currencies and syntropic agroforestry to lift up marginalized communities.

Syntropic agroforestry uses principles like soil cover, plant stratification, and succession planning to develop sustainable food forests. Community currencies help fund the creation of these forests and circulate value, like nutrients, within the community.

I tend to get different search results for different nostr clients. The pull the data from varying sources (aka "relays") and sometimes the sources are not all connected. It's frustrating, but it's getting better and better.

So searching from a variety of clients improves your odds of finding something.

Here are some clients I use:

I hear you. I get sucked in and need to remember to come up for air, get outside, do some work or go for a walk. Social media has a way of becoming mental clutter for me.

But I've really enjoyed back reading your posts today.

It's nice to see an upside here. It's sad to lose a magnificent tree like this, but it's always to see nature's resilience.

(I also feel sad for the teenager who did this. I'm imagining a kid who's been carrying some real pain and will now be experiencing some serious accountability.)

Will Ruddick has done some great on-the-ground work developing community currencies. I've watched this documentary several time and get excited about the possibility. A lot of work and experimentation has been done outside Bitcoin with local and community currencies. With the idea of a "circular economy" trending with Bitcoiners, this is work checking out.

And plenty of people think Elon's playing 3-D chess. It so important that we all work harder a knowing the difference.

One thing I appreciate about the Bitcoin community is it periodically knocks a hero down a peg or two. It's like a forest burning down and new life emerging. No on can or should speak for us all.

I recently had to write a program in REXX, which is like VBA for the IBM mainframe. Bought used books online and more/less learned it in a couple weeks, part-time. The program solved a frustrating problem the mainframe developers kept avoiding.
