Privacy is normal and good.

There has been an effort among authorities to make “money laundering” and “financial privacy” the same thing. That is, the mere act of moving money privately itself becomes a crime. That’s not okay.

Money laundering is when money that is obtained through crime is concealed by obfuscating it with clean money. The actual crime is the initial non-financial crime (say, mob stuff), and historically money laundering involves manual activity to work with the criminals.

Now that open source tech can make certain transactions private, authorities increasingly equate all private money transfer with money laundering, even if the developer of the open source tech had no direct involvement with criminals. Authorities target them regardless, and sanction the technology itself. Financial privacy becomes synonymous with crime in their minds, and in the minds of the public.

I'm not here on Nostr because I run away from Twitter. I'm here because I'm in search for an internet as it once used to be.

I'm a hacker who fucking hates that social media is in the hands of private companies. I remember using IRC and meeting likeminded anons online. I remember what the internet utopia felt like. People who didn't care what your name or status is, people who aren't interested in sharing their boring holiday pics with random strangers online. I'm not interested in what politicians and influencers have to say. I don't care about the latest mainstream trend that's going viral.

I want random weird interesting smart people around me who share their ideas in a free and open space that isn't controlled by anyone.

That's all I'm looking for. There aren't many such spaces on the internet.

I'm fed up with easy.

You don't want easy.

The road to hell is paved with good intentions, and one of said intentions is making things too easy.

Easy is staying on the couch.

Easy is not putting on your running shoes.

Easy is watching the porn, eating the junk food, binging the fucking stupid series.

Easy is not sticking out.

Easy is shutting up when you should be speaking out.

Easy is compliance.

Easy is saying the same thing, thinking the same thing, and liking the same thing as everyone else.

Easy is kicking the can down the road.

Easy is short-term gain for long-term losses.

Easy is starting up the money printer.

Easy is "papering over" failures.

Easy is "This is too hard. This is not for me. Someone else should take care of it."

Easy is not educating yourself.

Easy is not taking responsibility.

Easy is trusting a third party.

Easy is not holding your own keys.

Easy is comfortable.

Easy is not having to think.

Easy is not having to understand.

Easy is the coddling of the mind.

Doing things right is hard. Understanding things right is hard too. As is changing the status quo. But there's no improvement without change, no change without pain.

Fuck easy.

I keep seeing the term “circular economy” used in the Bitcoin community but I haven’t seen any resources on what is meant by this or how it works.

Can someone help me out here??

During those 2 years we spend $17 billion and drive half the country into frothing madness, but thanks to the electoral college it always comes down to the same 50,000 voters in the same three states.

Dude that's awesome!!! I had the same conclusion. NVC can be really gross if used incorrectly, but really profound if it's integrated in a natural way.

In fact I find it to be more of a default way of life than a way I actually speak. I do the NVC translations in my head and just try to live by it rather than speaking the lines robotically.
