Violinist and teacher, building a homestead on raw land in between lessons and concerts. Fascinated by how we can develop resilience in our lives, in our families, in our communities. I'm excited about freedom tech and circular economies, and am deeply grateful for the devs and advocates who are helping build tools for a better future.

My first #zapathon, and I don't really know what that is, but everyone seems very excited πŸ™‚

ooooh that sounds amazing. One of my projects this fall was planting cold-hardy pomegranates. Crossing my fingers that they make it through their first winter.

When you get land, let's start a Nostr cuttings exchange. Soon I'll be able to share elderberry, mulberry, various kinds of figs, American persimmon and hopefully some currants and aronia.

(I know that some of this is in direct contradiction to my post above...)

He's been pretty clear about regretting his stance on some of the covid measures.

Do you have any reason to say that he was a paid shill - that's a pretty strong accusation - rather than just a victim of propaganda himself? (as most of us have been at some point...)

It's incredible.

As with Krugman's moronic statements about inflation- either Yellen is really stupid or she assumes that we are.

There are some wonderful projects happening that might surprise you.

Once we leave the extractive and large-scale framework of conventional agriculture, things start to open up a lot.

What do you mean by "agricultural land?" My land is not "agricultural land" but we might be close to filling all of our protein needs within just a few years, and in the meantime we're seeing dramatically more biodiversity and we're building the fertility of the soils.

If you're curious to explore more -

Silvopasture = growing trees on animal pasture (so: fertile soils, protein, nut/fruit crops from the trees).

Permaculture = incredibly productive and rich ecosystems

Intensive rotational grazing = moving ruminants around as they graze, which dramatically improves pasture (so eventually means much more productive land) and improves soil (which means better drought resistance and stronger ecosystem in general)

Wise use of animals and land contouring can lead to big improvement in fertility and food production in nearly every climate.

Then there's the use of biochar, thoughtful interplantings/symbiotic relationships, hydroponics... there's a lot going on and plenty of room for hope outside the factory farming and monocropping world besides cows in the Alps.

Every once in a while we find a treasure of hidden eggs! There are lots of wonderful surprise moments in life on the land, but this is a particularly delicious one.

ha! this is great

time to get Chris onto Nostr...

one of the families that we met at the Doughtery workshop at HOA a few years ago helped us find our land. We're still in touch and see them often, and Beth's guidance and enouragement runs through our conversations and efforts.

I'm excited to hear more about what you both learn!

I'll look into the hay wagons - thank you! Most of our pasture is on very steep slopes, so any kind of mobile structures are really tricky. We're growing trees so that eventually we have a silvopasture system, but of course that takes time.
