Just a Bitcoin Lizard trying to gobble up some sats.

⚡️POW - 138 th day on Nostr, when everything's going well I've been transparent, now I have to do the same when things aren't going so well. As a reminder, all the work is done manually, no automation!

🔸 7717 Notes

🔸 5377 Replies

➤ 7717 / 138 = 55.92 publications per day

➤ 55.92 / 24 = 2.33 publications per hour

➤ 13094 / 138 = 94.884 traces of activity per day

In terms of financial return, here are the figures:

🔸 1,135,000 sats in total.

➤ 1135000 / 138 = 8,224.638 sats per working day

➤ 8224.638 / 55.92 = 147.0786 sats per publication

➤ 8224.63 / 8 = 1,028.0788 sats per hour worked.

That's the equivalent of about $1 an hour of work.

For your information, in the last two weeks it's clearly plummeted to around 2000 sats per day (I haven't yet identified the cause, but there are several hypotheses, such as the fact that I'm no longer "new" or a "drop in interest").

To sum up, I'm clearly beginning to realize that it's going to be very difficult to make a living from it, at least by 2025 I consider the goal to be impossible.

To be able to make a living from it, I was talking about it this morning. I've calculated 50,000 sats per day, if I maintain a cadence of around 60 publications, that would be 833.33 sats per publication, which sounds enormous, but if we show this with almost 7,000 subscribers, we can say that it's feasible. Let me explain: if readers zap with 1 zap each, assuming that only 1/4 of my subscribers see my publication, we're at 1,750, and if only half of them zap with 1 sats, we're at 875 sats. So seen like that, it's achievable, but it's only theory...

The reality is that only a handful of people (who wish to remain anonymous for the most part) support me in a consistent way, which "compensates" a little for the "inactive mass".

On the human side, it's my best experience of any platform. There's a great deal of benevolence, but I think that goes hand in hand with intelligence. Intelligent people are basically good people, and you can see that here.

In terms of user experience, I'm having a bit of trouble keeping up with notifications and posting from time to time, but nothing catastrophic.

Sorry I took so long, but it feels good to share this adventure with you, who knows, maybe in a while I'll be the first Nostrich to make a living out of it, and I'll be able to use my Proof of Work publications to testify. In any case, I've achieved the biggest Nostr speed run in the history of the protocol, I think. Well, I don't know, maybe others have done better before me....

Thank you all, for your support every day I know that some are eagerly awaiting my publications and that makes me proud! I love you ❤️

Our next target is 10,000 notes, by which time we'll be updating you in a little more detail.

Anecdotally I feel like zaps are down across the board. Maybe the novelty has worn off and most users are scrolling without zapping? That would not be good for broader Nostr adoption.

I think that is fair. I used to travel to many provinces in Canada for my job so I have some nostalgia but you are right, Tim Hortons is just okay.

Minor improvement over Starbucks. Over priced coffee drinks but Tim Hortons has donuts instead of random baked goods.

For the record I'm not a fan of Starbucks.

I'm pretty sure clonezilla is just doing dd under the covers anyway?

I've used dd since the mid 2000's when only paid products like Acronis existed (or at least Acronis was the only disk copying program I knew about at the time). I guess old habits die hard and dd just works.

I attempted to backup my main desktop computer with dd last night.

Don't worry, the attempt was successful! I've used dd to backup my computers for years. I've been budget constrained so I didn't have 2 TB of disk available until recently so I've used this machine for a couple of years and have a ton of important stuff on it and didn't have any kind of backup.

It occurred to me after I started the clone that I should have done some kind of file backup prior to kicking off the dd command. I did quadruple check that my "if" and "of" were correct but still...

#Linux

I tried to build it on Arch Linux a couple of years ago and was unable to. My feeling at the time was that it wouldn't run with up to date libraries. I see that Eric is still working on it so hopefully that has changed.

You are probably right.

The thing I dislike most about Nostr is this cycle:

1) Nostr developer creates something flashy

2) Everyone on Nostr celebrates. This will bring in more users from other platforms they say

3) Development on the new thing rapidly slows down

4) The new thing is left broken and forgotten

5) goto 1

This may only be my perception. I simply don't want to invest the time to try out the new thing which might quickly become the forgotten thing.

This is quite interesting. The people of Venezuela know about Bitcoin but USDT and Binance have a lot more mindshare. It is good to look outside of our #Bitcoin bubble every now and then!

Thank you for posting this, very interesting! It seems that USDT and Binance have massive mindshare in Venezuela.

You are channeling your inner 2017 Roger Ver!

I would never minimize Satoshi's invention but he hasn't been involved since 2011 and the project has evolved in ways he never could have predicted. Should we push for a hard fork that gets us back to "one-CPU-one-vote"?
