Framed #710 (nope. I watched Eyes of Fire, on prime video, which is a rubbish film on multiple levels, but like an explanation of a beast in a medieval bestiary serves as an example of moral tale. It was an independent horror film from 1983, it had some good actors, and the the cinematography is often excellent. I'm not keen on film having perfect exposure and lighting because it's rare such perfect lighting and exposure occurs naturally, but Eyes of Fire mostly has perfect exposure and lighting, well composed scenes - no chopped off details in frame, which suggests a degree of competence not normally associated with late 1970s/early 1980s horror films. It's a perfect example of what happens when a person who is highly competent in one area of expertise assumes that their competence extends to a related, but not the same, area of expertise. It was written and directed by the same person. The accents are terrible, the actors do not seem to know what to do in some scenes, and the plot is fairly obvious from a third of the way into the film. Had the screenplay being written by, or with, someone highly competent in the field of screenwriting I think it could have been amazing. I don't know anything about the making or background of the film, because my bestiary of bad but interesting films is not a real thing, and it would take excessive time, but I think I'm probably right. I also started watching Brand New Cherry Flavor, which is excellent on every level so far, but Rosa Salazar is amazing - she reminds me of Richard Dreyfuss in Close Encounters of The Third Kind, and the rest of the cast are also great.)

Framed #709 (no. I watched Nocturne which I didn't enjoy. I thought the direction was good and cinematography. An example of which was right at the start with the shift in focus from a reflection which is a kind of visual vocabulary which, if used judiciously, adds to the narrative. But everything I thought would happen happened. There was stereotypical elite, private, arts academy, stereotypical teachers, stereotypical pupils and all major aspects of the plot were like giant billboards on the horizon. The actors were all good actors. Just if a person strops away all of the pretences it was a boring story with boring characters. I spent all of yesterday caring for a, somewhat, loved one.)

Obviously bits of this I agree with and bits I don't. Also it's easy for anyone technology to forget it's what is done with something that counts not the underlying technologies which are tools.

One of these was sland and therefore a guess.

Framed #708 (nope. I have never watched Warlock, but last night I gave Warlock 2 a try. There was a period, from about 1989 to 1994, in film, and an extent in real life, where the general aesthetics was cool charity shop, or cool thrift store. In that there wasn't a fixed aesthetic, and it was all jumbled together from the previous decades. Maybe a result of the economic downturns of the early 1990s or a reaction against the overt consumer aesthetics of the 1980s, and/or it was the children of parents who were teenagers in the 1960s. Simple explanations are mostly rubbish. It was a bloody awful film. It's the kind of film that gives credence to the idea of people with terrible ideas moving to LA to seek their fortune. I like thrift stores and charity shops because they are often interesting. I'm sure the actors did their best with what was available. The special effects were, and I could be wrong - I haven't checked , it looked like it - were in part Newtek Video Toaster* and the usual latex and corn-syrup gore. There were a few interesting shots, like in the loft, that were either composite frames to simulate a tilt shift lens or were an actual tilt shift lens. I don't think so because the field of view was inconsistent for a tilt shift lens. I think it was Video Toaster compositing. I wouldn't watch Warlock 2 again but I gave it a thumbs up on Prime Video for existing. I would, however, watch Warlock 1 because I haven't seen it. Overall 2 Leprechauns out of 5. I'll do Wordall when I'm awake.)

Framed #707 (nope. I watched a Netflix documentary about the RaΓ«lian movement. I'm inclined towards people being able to believe whatever they want even if it's bonkers*, provided it's not anti-social or illegal. There does seem to be a tendency to want something beyond what we see and what we perceived as limitations within our own lives. Combine that with a community and there's a lot of dangers, not last the loss of individual identity outside of whatever institution or structure a person identifies with. That's not unique to any religion of institutions. Not necessarily bad in terms of a sense of purpose but precarious if there's no purpose without it. If, as a thought experiment, a person imagines the distance between technology now and technology during the 1940s that's a pretty big gap. If a person imagines an encounter with beings with gap beyond that the potential revelations would be quite far beyond 1970s and 1990s sci-fi tropes. Things we haven't thought about rather than things we have and fairly easy to verify - advanced beings always provide batteries and see the advantages of comprehensive manuals/documentation. Unless we stole it, in which case we'd inch around in the dark using the primitive scientific tools we have available, lighting things up bit by bit, and I'm not sure we should wholly trust theives. We're not special because we're all special.)

Framed #706 (nope. I watched the last episode of The Man In The High Castle and there were lots of good bits, like where the eldest daughter of the Smiths confronted her mother, but also not the best episode or ending. TV is a bit cruel like that, I suspect necessarily because it's also quite expensive. The highlight of yesterday was a nearly 5 year old working out that their hiking boots are in fact waterproof and quite grippy in thick mud. Although he had to be reminded that if the water goes over the ankles he would still end up with wet feet. Mud and water flew. Afterwards we swapped a book in a community library. I like to put in as I take out so I put in The Gun by Fuminori Nakamura and he chose the Mr Men/Little Miss book 'Be Kind'. Which was a good book about human pacification and domestication. It is however, better to be kind and we enjoyed reading it together. I'm going to buy him the follow up "Surrounded by bottomholes" where Mr Happy has to thump Mr Wiggly to get his lunch back and devise methods to avoid being beaten up by the older boys.

Here is a raffle for a nice little painting, Β£10 entry, raising money for children in Palestine, who objectively aren't having a nice time but deserve unequivocal kindness because they're children.

https://www.instagram.com/reel/C3Iv8XGrsb8/

I won a little painting April last year and Rose-Marie Caldecott makes fine art. I'll probably enter again.

Framed #705 (nope. I need some time to fill up my word and music bags. I watched Despicable Me 3, which was nowhere near as bad as I thought it was going to be. I watched the penultimate The Man in The High Castle - It was cancelled in 2019. I think it had lost its way a bit in the last series. That said, it is a shame when good shows are cancelled and things that are forgettable over the longer term, but are consistently successful, aren't cancelled. I suppose there's no easy was of telling what will be forgotten or remembered over the longer term or why. At some point streaming services are going to pull old shows that they made because they're competing with new shows that they made. Plus, unless, a large variety of post-apocalyptic, zombie films, and idiosyncratic detectives are occasionally culled there isn't going to be enough time to work out which ones are good. Maybe whichever one a person watched first but I don't think that's likely because I've watched stuff I thought was a good movie as a teenager and a lot of them were crap. There are various technological stratifications and changes in fashion.)

Framed #703 (nope. It's almost a well established trope to have bigger problems then point at a smaller part of the problem as a distraction. My back is on fire but pointing at my toenails will definitely help. Emmanuel Goldstein in 1984 or the fate of Snowball in Animal Farm or countless other literary depictions. The inverse of that is presumably to point at a much bigger problem when there is a much smaller problem that one doesn't want to solve. That's why I'm not into all of the anti-woke/radical left, or neoliberal/melts/centrist dad, stuff because they strike me as distractions. There are big technical mechanisms underneath everything and getting a basic grip on any of them takes some kind of effort to understand, so there's a tendency for people to go with what they perceive as values. I have continued watching The Man in The High Castle and occasionally The Great British Menu which is a great cooking show.)

Framed #701 (nah. I woke up to a powecut. Initially two postcode segments with about 2000 properties. It lasted about an hour. I checked the national news with the 5G/4G on my phone although given anything that significantly affected the power grid I'd be better off with an analogue radio powered by batteries because phone towers need power. It has been a moderately grim week and I feel deflated. It's partly because of moderate inflammation that is somewhat painful, although I think there is an element of mind over matter there, because the more grim I feel the less likely I am to engage in the kind of movements or behaviours to address it. Now I've shaken that viral thing I'll improve. There are still sources of anxiety, as mentioned earlier in the week, but I don't really feel anxious - I burnt out my anxiety - I think it manifests by feeling a bit hopeless and lost and I regard those as luxuries. To an extent because I have the time and inclination to reflect upon them. In my experience if I don't or I don't have the time they pop up like "whack-a-mole" at inconvenient times. I think I'll have a good day.)

Framed #700 (nope. Between the ongoing hospital fuss (probably ok) and the lingering lurgies (I'm fine) I haven't got a great deal to mention. I've got to fill up my letters bag and music bag.)

Framed #699 (Saw it on VHS in the early 1990s. VHS was crap. Better in the regard of being more accessible than its predecessors, worse than BetaMax, worse than LaserDisc, but has the property, like DVDs, of movies a person can collect and physically curate, rather than having the terms dictated to people by various entities that want to collect recurring fees and data. On the other-hand there seems like there is more of everything. I don't buy into Theodor Adorno's Culture Industry, because I think the conclusions of a great deal of social science, and political science, are pareidolia. Or, on the off chance that people spotting tosspots in clouds are right, if there a Culture Industry, it's no more or less competent then anything else. Got woken up, fever free, bright eyed and bushy tailed, and capable of boosterism. I had 4 good hours of sleep followed by being woken up by acute back pain. Normality has returned. Although that's not all the time either.)

* I think this sets a quite low standard for feeling bad. But everything is better or worse relative to something else objectively and subjectively. Music is often a balloon called moaning**.

I want fresh air. Random shot somewhat dicked about with from a 'raw' camera image, like a digital negative, in Rawtherapee ( https://www.rawtherapee.com/ ). It's at a fraction of the actual resolution and heavily compressed, losing quality, but the great thing about that is that if anyone lifts it for commercial purposes (unlikely in this case) they're got a greatly inferior copy of the original.
