drivechains add a hash and a counter to the block header. it lets people, if they want to, put their coins in an address controlled by the miners. those bitcoin then can move around on a sidechain. it's like the liquid federation or the wbtc multisig but the miners are the custodians.

non-technical people and people that have delusions that bitcoin can scale by some, as yet undiscovered, magic crypto shared utxo thing (or dumber people that think bitcoin can scale just with lightning) are upset because they see a growing movement to activate drivechains and they don't get it

There's the acknowledgement that services like Coinbase and BitPay (and numerous other names) are making it increasingly viable from a usability perspective to get on board, but then there's contention from more extremist maxis about corporate centralization (assuming they're not hypocrites and give Blockstream a free pass) and businesses themselves about adaptability.

I make no qualms about the fact that in spite of it existing for over a decade, Bitcoin won't ever get the mass adoption that invested holders and/or users like myself want it to have. It'll still be there for those who want to give traditional banking the middle finger, but with how willing people have been to have their privacy raped by companies like Google and Facebook/Meta, Bitcoin came too late for those not around during OWS to give a shit.

No wonder Bitcoin users are seen as crazy when everyone else has made craziness their normal... that, and the fact most won't SHUT THE FUCK UP when people say they're not interested.

There are simply not enough people who know about NOSTR. If more people were on the platform, all other problems disappear. There are many interesting people on NOSTR if you take the time to find them. Unfortunately most people are not going to stick around long enough to find their crowd.

I don't think changing the global base layer of money in 14 years is a reasonable expectation. To the extent that it's successful, it was always going to be a multi-decade process.

As for the final statement on burden of proof, I disagree. The #1 variable that gives bitcoin its value is its resistance to change. It's like the U.S. Constitution in that regard. You want to change the U.S. Constitution? Get a supermajority of Congress and a supermajority of States to agree to it. It's not a perfect document, but it's a good base layer and the fact that it's hard to change is the main point. If someone were to try to change the U.S. Constitution in some way that I might even agree with but that tries to do so in such a way to somehow bypass that supermajority, then my kneejerk reaction becomes no. Full stop. Otherwise the U.S. Constitution doesn't matter.

Technical experts I respect disagree with each other a lot more on the incentive risk of drivechains than taproot. Even taproot had unintended consequences regarding ordinals (which I don't view as a threat, but the unintended usage of the witness space like that is not a great sign from a risk management perspective).

But I think more importantly, bitcoin is valuable specifically because it's hard to change. That's the killer feature. If it's easy to change, it's really not that important of a project in the long arc of history. So for that reason, to the extent that people want to make contentious changes, I would likely oppose them by default with whatever tools I have (my node, my voice, my money, etc) unless or until they are not very contentious (eg like taproot initially was). So from that perspective, I can go from neutral on a change to opposing a change, based on the method of trying to make that change a reality.

Agree they are likely leaving out crucial details.. If I knew for certain that my taxes were only going to roads, police and firemen, I would gladly pay my taxes, they would be dirt cheap, but we all no that isn’t even a fraction of where our taxes go.
