I think a fair amount about why I am doing this (as in working in Bitcoin and educating around it as I see it), and why I don’t just throw it to the win and live my own happy little life.
The truth is that I think if we are not ‘all in’ we may very well lose. And not just bitcoin, but the wider vision of the Cypherpunks, and the possibility of a truly free internet and what that promise would mean to humanity.
I simply cannot walk away. I must do this because I feel morally and ethically obliged to fight fiat on every front available so that the lies may finally be seen by all for what they are: lies.
Damn lies that have pulled the whole of Earth into its nihilism and despair; damning language itself to its collapse and presenting the impossible idea of freedom from the State and its infinite tyranny.
We must win—or all of posterity will be enslaved forever.
I've just received a grant of $25,000 USD (in Bitcoin) to work alongside the Human Rights Foundation educating political dissidents around how to use BTC. I'm very humbled and excited.
Rather than focus on me for this post though, I want to take you on a journey regarding one of the stories I've witnessed at the Oslo Freedom Forum that has had the most impact on me.
In Oslo 2022, I watched a woman take the stage and talk about her activist husband who had been abducted and imprisoned in Nicaragua, leaving their daughter fatherless, as they had no contact with him at all.
I also met a wonderful woman learning about Bitcoin wallets for the first time, as a way to fundraise and get money into countries where dissident bank accounts would be shut down.
A year later I returned to Oslo and learned two things.
1. The woman I spoke with/coached and the woman onstage were the same person. Her name is Berta Maradiaga.
2. Due to the efforts of the HRF her husband Felix had been freed and returned to them for the first time in 3 years. They even showed a video of his daughter's tearful first reunion.
I encourage you to watch all 3 videos here. It is a harrowing story and it emotionally broke me watching it play out in real time. I got to spend a bunch of time with Berta recently at Bitcoin Park in Nashville, and she continues to learn about BTC and how it can be used to further their cause. She is wonderful.

Looking more and more like that’s the way it’s gonna go. I worry about my family, but at least they’ll have a bugout spot with me if the get out in time.

Honestly, I’m just so grateful for all of this.
I’m a pretty morose guy, so the fact that there is this community of people building the tools of the future in order to ensure that posterity will have a shot at being free means so much to me. I don’t think I could have escaped the darkness that had entrapped before finding bitcoin; and it’s not about the money, but about the ability to simply own something in a world that wants you to own nothing, and be happy about it.
Yes, we’ve been trained like dogs to quiver and prattle when we have to ask of ourselves what is really truth? Our whole lives we have been taught it’s the right answer (by decree) rather than to question.

I’m coming to terms with the fact that most people are very, very stupid; and it’s not just raw stupidity but mixed with a kind of hubris that makes them blind to anything that asks them to think for themselves. I’m feeling more contempt lately because we are right, and they are smooth brained midwits who are holding everything back.
