I'm really grateful that bookstr.xyz exists!

I loved Goodreads. Now that I've become a nostrich, I needed this shit.

If the powers that be had foreseen the revolutionary impact of asymmetric cryptography and its growing ease of use (such as PGP, Bitcoin, and Nostr), they never would've opened the internet to the public.

To be honest, I don’t know because I haven’t played around with BitBox.

But this might help: find the fingerprint of the original wallet you create and note it down. (Your Bitbox must have it, even if it does not, Sparrow shows the fingerprint to you once imported.)

Then add the passphrase through the mechanism you just described which seems as clunky as fuck to be honest šŸ˜‚

Then check the fingerprint of the new wallet to see if it has changed or not. The next time you turn on the device, check which fingerprint is shown. Whichever fingerprint it is, you can easily tell which wallet is loading by default.

Feel free to give me a call if you have any problem doing this check. Would be more than happy to help ā˜ŗļø

Yeah man. It’s challenging. That’s the reason why I haven’t made the jump yet - but it’s coming soon! All Bitcoin and Nostr education.

"Being self-employed for 10 years, I think that was always an issue to have enough funds to finance your life if you have some bad months, a bad year, or something. Thanks to saving now mainly in Bitcoin, there's now just so much more safety. It's like a safety net for me.ā€ — Philipp Alexander

Why though? šŸ˜‚šŸ˜‚šŸ˜‚

And yes, the power of Vince Gilligan is that the characters are so real and so believable. They are not perfect heros.

We’ve started rewatching Breaking Bad (2008), our first revisit since watching it nearly a decade ago.

Fun fact: Breaking Bad was actually the very first TV series I ever watched in full—every single episode. And I’m not talking about those that aired on TV; I mean the ones I binged through streaming services.

I liked it. I liked it a lot. But my favorite characters, without question, were Saul Goodman and Mike Ehrmantraut. I first got interested in Better Call Saul simply because Saul’s name was in the title—then I found out Mike was a main character there too, which sealed the deal.

You might find this surprising, but I really didn’t like Walter White. Not as a character, and not as a person in real life either. (In one of his interviews, he mentioned that his favorite scene was when he shot Mike—and since I adore Mike, that really stung.)

Now that I’m rewatching the show, I’m starting to appreciate it on a deeper level. Walter still probably won’t be my favorite character, and Mike and Saul will remain my heroes, but I can now fully admire the sheer skill of the writers and creators. Every moment, every detail of the storytelling, feels meticulously crafted—and I appreciate every second of it.

Finished Star Trek: The Next Generation (1987) the other night! šŸŽ¬

It's been a fun ride, and here are my thoughts about the series:

We started watching Star Trek: TNG on @`JesterHodl`'s recommendation. He pointed out that the characters take some time to develop and that if you rewatch it later, the first few episodes feel a bit jarring and out of sync with the rest.

Fair point. Initially, it's clear that the creators were still figuring out who these characters were and what traits they should possess.

Overall, it’s an imaginative, ambitious sci-fi series that has absolutely stood the test of time — and deservedly so. True, some of its ā€œpredictionsā€ and tech ideas are wild and might break the laws of physics, but some actually came true. (And today’s AI is arguably more accurate than Commander Data — who, by the way, is my favorite character. I’m gonna dress up as him for the next Halloween! šŸŽƒ)

They nailed certain tech forecasts impressively well, and some of their outrageous ideas might still come true — they feel really plausible. Other times, their ā€œbreakthroughsā€ make you wonder: could that even happen? And before you know it, you’re down a rabbit hole researching the physics behind it and spending hours talking with AI about it. Even if you discover it’s just pure imagination, the mental trip is worth it.

On the other extreme end, there are things they couldn't foresee. Every device in the show has physical buttons, while today we just tap icons on sleek, screen-only devices. At times, characters are reading paperback books—even now, physical books are becoming more of a thing of the past. I wouldn’t call it a shortcoming—many sci-fi worlds age that way. We humans don't have a crystal ball anyway.

Most episodes are trippy as fuck! šŸ„ Honestly, some of them would probably only make full sense if you’ve had a religious experience with certain sacred plants, fungi, or molecules (you know exactly what I mean).

āš ļø This paragraph contains some mild spoilers!

There’s this character, Q, that my girl and I both fucking hated. We couldn't stand his smug face or his voice. And he’s there from episode one! But in the final episode, there’s an unexpected and mind-bending twist. Turns out Q might have been a kind of cosmic ā€œtrip sitterā€ all along. It actually makes you rethink your hatred for him. āš ļø

This got me wondering—have any of the creators of Star Trek tried psychedelics? Well, Gene Roddenberry himself was a military veteran and largely kept a conservative public image. He did not speak openly about psychedelics, though he did discuss drug legalization and addiction as mental health issues.

But some others involved in sci-fi have been more candid—like writer Norman Spinrad, who openly believes consciousness-altering drugs have shaped much of creative writing.

So while Star Trek maintained a measured, science-based tone, at least some of the creative minds behind sci-fi have had first-hand psychedelic insights.

One more thing that speaks to how good the show is: sci-fi usually isn’t my girlfriend’s cup of tea, and I normally watch it in my ā€œme timeā€. But she absolutely loved this series — sometimes I think she was even more excited than I was to see the next episode. That’s a win in my book.

Overall score: Solid 7/10 from me. āļøāļøāļøāļøāļøāļøāļø

If it sounds too good to be true, it probably is.

Bitcoin doesn’t rise non-stop. It never has. It never will. And that’s exactly why it’s real.

That day will come, my friend 🫔

This is the advice I have taken to the heart since the covid lockdowns.

I refused to listen to the podcasts or read the books of the covid hysterics and have refused to listen to cowards hoping that in the midst of their dirt, they might have some tiny pieces of gold.
