I can advise this from personal experience.
It may or may not apply to you.
1. You cannot make it work if your partner is part of the 'ritual'
2. Stopping leaves a huge void that needs filling.
3. Find that thing, and go for it.
4. Cut social circles that form part of the 'rituals'
5. Don't go in half hearted. It is a hero or zero mentality that's needed.
6. Be fucking proud of yourself.
Make plans. Picture yourself in the future, then make it happen.
There will be days temptation rises. Be prepared for them. ( For me it wasn't when life was tough, it was when it was easy. )
I often hear the stories of others talking about how they remember their first experience etc. I can honestly say I cannot. I do remember thinking if I was still doing this when I was 18, then it was a problem lol. I was an idiot. It was already a problem.
