What solution do you recommend for buying bitcoin with an IRA so it can be self-custodied?

The only thing stopping me is having dependents. I’d be living in a tent right now if I didn’t have people counting on my dwindling salary. The matrix has me. I’m just trying to point out the traps to my kids. And they likely won’t get it until it’s too late either. Too many distractions.

I don’t even know what fighting for a better world means anymore. When I was younger I thought I did.

- Protests don’t work.

- Opting out and saving the pittance you have left after income tax and bill payments on payday in Bitcoin doesn’t work. (Though it is smart and protects your savings).

- voting doesn’t work

- writing your representatives doesn’t work

We seriously just need a general strike. But we are going to have to feel a lot more pain before a critical mass of workers will entertain that thought. And the organizers will be martyred.

Medium of exchange work is the new frontier for Bitcoin.

If we want any policy changes, we need a network of people who are incentivized to fight for medium of exchange (specifically tax) policy.

One person, one business at a time.

If getting a critical mass of individuals onboard is hard, getting a critical mass of business owners willing to stick their necks out and stop acting as agents for the state on payday (with at-source income tax deductions) will be next to impossible. I still think we will need to reach a pain point where everyone just stops reporting to work for a couple months. Historically, it’s the only thing that’s ever gotten the politicians’ attention.

ok, I'm a brand new non technical user, first heard of NOSTR in a libertarian chat on Telegram, a few months ago. Yesterday on X, Reason posted an article "Nostr is a community-run digital network highly resistant to censorship and corruption." It caught my attention, so I found and joined this new platform for me. My interest are Canadian libertarian politics, general economics, general trucking as I'm a simple truck driver for a living, the carnivore lifestyle for my health and my family is most important to me.

As a non technical user, I must engage in my own learning curve and discover how I and this platform community can mutually benefit from my limited participation.

Of course she was a good citizen, followed the rules and used her real name etc.

Now her profile is hacked and spreading shit in her name.

Facebook doesn't offer support - try to find an email address or hotline lol. It was really sad.

TL;DR choose wisely what info you give out. And use services that respect your privacy in the first place

The complicated aspect about the Social Security system in the United States is that it was falsely marketed.

It's called an "entitlement" because people pay into it and are supposed to get it back like a pension, regardless of whether they are rich or poor when they retire. And so the Baby Boomer generation views any cuts to their social security as a rugpull, basically. It's not insurance or charity; it's an entitlement.

However, although it was marketed as like an entitlement/pension, that's not how the math worked out in practice. And it's because population growth is slowing. It was based on ponzi math, assuming that every generation will be bigger than the one that came before it. But the Baby Boomer generation was huge.

In addition, when Social Security was created, the retirement age was set near the average life expectancy. Many people would not live long enough to collect it, and most would collect it for a handful of years. Only a small minority of outliers would work for like 40 years and then live off social security for like 20+ years. But then over the decades, life expectancy increased by like 15 years, so the default assumption is indeed that someone can work for 40 years and then have 20+ years of retirement, even though the amount they pay into it doesn't really mathematically cover that. It's not designed for that en masse.

And so Baby Boomers had like a 3.5 worker-to-retiree ratio to support in their peak earnings years, while Millennials will have more like a 2.5 worker-to-retiree ratio or less to deal with. Which means they get a worse deal. Many Millennials don't even think they'll get it at all, despite paying into it.

That breaks up the social contract and sets up inter-generational political conflict. "Fourth Turning" stuff.

It's a big reason why "defined benefit" plans are inherently unstable; they rely on being able to predict the future.

And it's also a big reason why, when speaking about deficits, nothing stops this train.
