I think around me must have options and be reachable by foot, or transport. Like less than 500m is walkable.

Sometimes I look for nostrich signs when I walk in the city, like a tshirt or sticker. It is a fantasy to find like-minded people like that.

GM weird!

Keep it high.

🩸 Remember, remember, the bloody November

▪︎When Iran's streets were filled with anger and fervor

▪︎Protesters took to the streets, their voices loud

▪︎Demanding change, they refused to be cowed

🩸 The government responded with force and might

▪︎Tear gas and bullets, a brutal sight

▪︎People fell to the ground, their bodies broken

▪︎Their dreams of freedom forever unspoken

🩸 But still they fought on, their spirits unbroken

▪︎Their courage and determination never woken

▪︎For they knew that change was worth the fight

▪︎And they refused to give up without a fight

🩸 So let us remember this bloody November

▪︎And honor those who fought for what they believed in forever

▪︎Their sacrifice will never be forgotten

▪︎And their legacy will live on in a world that is not rotten.

Then why do you leave the Bitcoin you buy in the exchange⁉️

I read a book called How to Become the Dark Lord and Die Trying.

There is a woman from Earth named Davi who is the chosen one and she is stuck in a time loop in a fantasy world. Every time she dies, she wakes up in a forest pond and an old wizard finds her and says the prophecy is for her to save the world.

She has lived 237 of these lifetimes, totaling over 1,000 years, and can never win. The dark lord and his horde always wins, no matter what she tries. She has understandably become quite cynical. Her personality is like Deadpool now; she takes nothing seriously, constantly jokes about things, and breaks the fourth wall.

So as she is getting tortured in the dungeon of the dark lord on life #237 after yet another multi-year attempt that failed, she decides she is fed up with this. Instead of trying to defeat the dark lord and save the kingdom, she will instead join the bad side and become the dark lord.

So after finally finding a way to kill herself and end the torture, she wakes up in the forest pond again. When the wizard comes to find her, she kills him and then heads into the forest to start her journey to work up the bad guys ladder. Kind of like Groundhog Day she has so much accumulated experience (fighting, magic, combat tactics, knowledge of what events will happen when) and she can iterate when she fails, so she sets off on this new journey to become Dark Lord Davi.

So the story follows her as she builds a bigger and bigger army (she insists on calling it a horde, since dark lords have hordes) and adventures across the world accumulating power.

Funny stuff.

I get the joke part. Iranians take nothing seriously, because they have no impact on anything. It's been a long long time since everything has been out of hand. We are fucked no matter what. So we make jokes. Even about the imminent war, dire poverty, huge inflation, everything. It is the only weapon left.

It repeatedly blows my mind, just how fundamentally decent the majority of people here are.

My hope/theory is that it’s not actually “just like this on Nostr”. While it’s true that a number of us have overlapping interests or worldviews, there is also a natural diversity: people from all around the world, with different cultures, languages, philosophies, and experiences, all show up here to say GM.

It’s more of a cultural bell curve, where the majority of people are pretty chill, decent human beings, who generally like each other and respect one another’s differences.

My radical proposition is that this actually reflects the real world, and that the current cultural narrative of unrelenting division - while it has some truth to it, for sure — is drastically overblown, both on a personal level and by the media. On the edges of the bell curve are the very niche, very loud, and very “divided” subcultures. These groups have been given the loudest microphones.

Individually, if we only interact with the toxic, rage-bait algorithms that have come to define modern social/media (because it’s in journalism too), we experience the world through this clouded lens. We’re fed a continuous diet of disagreement, outrage, war, etc., because we click on it and thus the people making the content decisions get paid.

Remove the algorithms, and you remove the illusion of irreconcilable division. Nostr is a perfect case study of this, and so far it’s going beautifully.

I’m cautiously optimistic that this trend will continue when the user base grows 10x, 100x, because my view is that humanity is primarily good. Time will tell, and incentives will matter. But I’m hopeful that on a value-for-value, proof-of-work standard, our better instincts will prevail.

It's the same game theory that works in bitcoin, no nostrich has a gain in ruining nostr, and all nostriches win if nostr wins.

When I was a kid, I could never play pretend. I could never pretend to be a hero, doctor, ..., that the toy cars really ride and the dolls are talking.

Nothing has changed for me. I can never pretend to have conversation with AI, let alone make friends.

In the 1960s, a bright idea emerged: "Communism spreads because of poverty!" The thinking went that agricultural societies would remain stuck in poverty until they industrialized. So, America's grand strategy to combat communism? Poverty eradication through industrializing the world's farmers.

To achieve this, they pushed land reform programs and modernized agriculture. The mastermind behind it all? Walter Rostow, a famed economist with a book called The Stages of Economic Growth. The U.S. even pressured its allies, like Iran, into land reforms, thinking this would do the trick.

But this whole plan was a classic misreading of institutional economics. They believed that by breaking up landowner control and pushing through land reforms, they'd magically create a modern, industrial economy.

And the cherry on top? The most extreme version of this mindset was exporting democracy—something we've painfully witnessed over the last two decades. Under the guise of "institution-building," the U.S. left a trail of disastrous results in its wake.

Now, let's talk about Iran’s land reforms. Taking lands from the landowners was a massive blunder. First, it was an outright invasion of private property. Second, it made the landowners powerful enemies of the Shah. And third, the farmers, unable to manage their newfound land, flocked to the big cities over the following years. They eventually became a driving force behind the Islamic Revolution of 1978!
