Whatever you call it, a recommender system like this naturally drives centralization. It doesn’t need to be (and shouldn’t) on the protocol level, though.
The real problem is the flip side of that — new users don’t know whom to follow.
IMO recommender algo is essential for large scale adoption, because it lowers the barrier to entry.
