what’s everyone’s best news source these days?

Also wondering this…

Reddit 🤷🏾♀️
True, I love Reddit!
Nostr
bbc..?
😖
An assortment of podcasts.
Honestly, I think the only way is to dip into everything… Twitter is still very good for picking up news outside of the msm, I think. Hopefully NOSTR can take its place in that regard! 🤙
Either NOSTR or no bullshit bitcoin for bitcoin and related stuff.
For rest of the world stuff I tend to read both MSM and zerohedge kinda content and make an arithmetic average of the information absorbed.
Use https://ground.news to aggregate the news and classify them on their bias.
Tried it but it’s a bit busy and messy for me
It was twitter 😂 I’m also looking for a good news source
Twitter is good for sports news. I don’t have a favorite news source. Wish I did. I find the networks most credible.
None rn, but if I felt the need use something like ground or
Inkl, w a similar idea (collection of news subscriptions, prioritizes good news as well)
This looks better than anything I've been using. Thx for sharing #[3]
Simply Bitcoin podcast
Financial Times,
Economist,
Hacker News,
Neue Zürcher Zeitung (only remaining readable newspaper in the German speaking world)
nzz sucks too nowerdays unfortunately
My eyes
I use MailBrew and plug in multiple sources, searches, subreddits etc around specific topics.
Also Jack you didn’t say PV this morning when you started that shit

Nostr
I read headlines and then attempt to think through why I’m being presented this specific information/narrative at this specific time.
This is a costly & inefficient method, but it gets me closer to truth than attempting to triangulate between different sources.
Unfortunately, have to look at both sides and come up with something in the middle. Most of the time just have to avoid altogether
Truth is not necessarily in the middle. It can be, but it can also be found on either side politically.
Agreed... But the way reporting is these days, it's more often in the middle than on either side. With exceptions on harming children(trans movement). But both sides are just trying to play/report to their side.
@“The truth is somewhere in the middle” is an absolutely abysmal heuristic.
I never said truth was in the middle...I said what's being reported on is usually somewhere in the middle. There's a big difference.
Sorry, feel the need to clarify. Truth itself is objective. News is mostly not anymore. In terms of discerning news nowadays it feels like you have to read both sides and find the middle because both sides have blatant bias. That doesn't mean they don't get it right every once in awhile...I just meant in terms of discerning the news.
Truth itself has a basis in reality, and objective fact.
I hope this clarifies my position
It’s still Twitter for me 🫣
A list of selected accounts on twitter. Not trusting any of them individually really.
Known biases can be somewhat useful in situations when these accouns are confronted with stuff that strongly challenges their biases.
no news is the best news. At least when it comes to the mainstream crap.
Agree. That’s my general mode
Local news>>
Local news for me today would be: Feliz #DiaDeAndalucia! 💚“La única manera de fraternidad es la práctica de la tolerancia”. - Blas Infante
Morning Jack
Just zapped you a few SATS.
Like most, I used to think you were one of the bad guys but I’ve definitely changed my mind on that. Big time.
Appreciate all you’ve done and all you continue to do.
Much love 🧡
he really is the best 👩🏻💻
Yeah, I agree, news at the large scale ends up being an observational dilemma. I am pretty much unplugged and read some very local stuff.
Fully agree! Mainstream media is garbage. It’s the “soma” in Brave New World.
Agree. Purged my Twitter (main place for my info) to only be friends, sports, music, & work related a little while back. If something is big enough I’ll hear about it but removing the day to day noise has had a big positive impact
I agree. It's not like we should ignore world events but me, if I watch the news on tv, I feel like the world will end before the weekend. Having that feeling every week just keeps stacks and ignites negativity in me and negativity is counterproductive. Everything in mainstream news sounds like the end of the world happened three months ago and yet, we're still here.

This is going to be an unpopular opinion on here:
For general news, current events - I started getting the WSJ actual paper delivered. Tired of always staring at a screen. I supplement this with some magazines, sometimes economist or others.
For Bitcoin/tech - stacker.news, hacker news, Preston’s podcast, and nostr of course
To keep challenging the mind and learning about areas out of my realm I continue to enjoy Sam Harris and Lex F.
hacker news in rss feed
news bums me out so I avoid it and life is great
Read the competing psyops and propaganda and use my own intuition
I check the BBC website as I’m U.K. based but mostly for the sport and weather. Some habits are hard to kick
We need more investigative journalism
Yeah we do. It’s very hard to get funding though. I’ve had so many investigative pitches rejected that I’ve since given up 😢
Teletext and the town crier.
“The Breakup” from CountBTC and Bitcoin Magazine have a great morning show.
Hacker News is going pretty strong still
Just about any reporting by Chris Hedges (multiple outlets). The Greyzone.
a source of news to everyone never is the best 🤔
I read multiple different sources and then diff them in my head to try to figure out who's repeating propaganda or not mentioning something important. it's a giant hassle. sometimes even propagandists will say something true if it's negative about their target
Nostr doesn't leave much time for other mediums these days. But I double right swipe for Google news feed from time to time.
But normies never fail to disappoint. Just in, a news article about Bitcoin from reuters; and no mention of nostr and zap 🤷
But they slipped in a shitcoin. These authors must be living under a rock.
Reason
....... Those who have done the work and knows what's going on.... Visit MSM to see what most people believe and to understand the bigger picture...
I'm experiencing "news-paralysis". Reluctant to believe the mainstream financially biased news. Reluctant to believe self-proclaimed social media journalist dopamine addicts reposting the first thing they see.. and not enough time in day to DYOR to vet volume of news.
Ground News decent. At least gives better idea of the news source bias you're consuming, suggests YOUR bias based on what you're habitually reading, and if you like.. will suggest headlines opposite your measured bias.
No news == good news 📰
Al Jazeera or Ground News. Otherwise, I don't pay much attention to the media. It's all bullshit… or at least most of it.
Doing your own research will always be the best option
Indeed! multiple sources, various references and a little time! 😁

Trusted individuals, or individuals that create their own news publication at a local level or broader. I have spent the last eight years building a couple pretty big local news startups and a publishing platform. Its getting easier for individuals to compete with legacy news sources.
Hi #[1]
We need your help! We´ve made a little bit of history last Sunday afternoon. I performed live on my grand piano in Nostrnest with audience and it was a beautiful experience. A last-minute thing, but the people loved it and asked for more.
We´ve scheduled a piano concert for tomorrow, March 1st at 7pm UTC in the Nostrnest, but we´re facing technical problems. The first 5 or 6 seconds I play, the sound is stable and okay, but then the sound starts fading and the volume goes down. Like if the network got congested (Feedback loop / lack of bandwidth?). The speed varies, frequencies above 1.5/2KHz cause problems, and the sound gets distorted.
The signal we stream is clean. It´s been checked in various ways. Normal conversations sound okay in Nostrnest, but streaming live piano is a different story…
We´ve also reached out to #[2] for help. Could you help us out? I could do a soundcheck at any UTC time! Please check your DM for the invite. PV!

Everything
Bitcoin.review
Various podcasts. Used to be Hacker News.
Telegram of both parties and apply logic to find probable truth.
Propaganda by pundits everywhere on every topic.
Substack, twitter (sparingly) , a few blogs in a feed-reader, a couple of websites. Nothing mainstream - which is just propaganda these days.
been using artifact past few days, the algo seems so much better compared to google news, i'm getting more interesting mix of news/long form articles
No Agenda podcast has great news deconstruction.
can vary, twitter was and still somewhat useful for this. pbs/npr, cnn, msnbc, nyt, bangkok post, bbc, google news, msnbc. was thankful for tornado update npr yesterday while driving
PBD podcast, Breaking Points with Krystal and Sagaar, and Twitter unfortunately but just being honest. I’d love for Damus or some other nostr client to build up a great news feed and I’d switch immediately.
Couple of semi professional youtube channels by former journalists and tv anchors.

Naked capitalism… thorough review of many different things the mainstream media isnt mentioning + some interesting pieces from the web daily.
Twitter still because most people like to post words on Twitter. Instagram and Facebook started advertising paying money for reels and that’s not always news or anything. Just to be clear with news I mean science stuff or like tech science mix or medicine or something like that
THE DAILY STORMER
LewRockwell.com and Ron
Paul Institute are two of my favorites
I like to check out news stories on legacy media news shows, and then get alternative takes from people like Jesse Ventura, Alex Jones, and Bill Maher. No one of them ever has the whole truth, but each can point out where the other got it wrong.
Twitter, NYTimes, Financial Times, YouTube, Mastodon
🤔 I’m trying to stay away from the news, but of course I'm keeping an eye on the war in Ukraine, which is not too far away from where I live. Other than that, I'm looking for a place where value and real opportunities are being offered. ⚡️💜⚡️

Zerohedge. The truth is hard to come by these 😂
RT = Russia Today. Can also be reached by https://swentr.site
Individual journalists, Bloomberg terminal, On youtube I like DW (Deutche Welle), Al Jazeera.
Outside of tech news, I’ve been focused on only getting news that fits both of these criteria:
1) Is a primary source
2) Is news that’s actionable to me in some way
What makes news actionable you ask? Personally, I determine that by asking if that particular news can inform me for circumstances like:
- Making a financial/purchase decision
- Making a voting decision for an election
- Making a decision regarding my health/fitness
Things like that. I find that the vast majority of news isn’t actionable at all, and *at best* is just storytelling to scratch people’s curiosity itch.
At worst, it does nothing but manipulate/instill fear/misinform.
Very stoic :-)
haha you could say that! i just find that if i’m going for scratching curiosity itch, i’d much rather read some history or something, rather than aggregate myself with news.
I think you have sound logic there. I guess challenge is avoiding the stuff that you can’t action anyway in the first place.
In a similar vain for voting:
- I ask my account who I should vote for
- I ask my family who who I should vote for
- I ask my friends who I should vote for
From that … I continue to work to make Bitcoin our form of exchange :-)
I am actually working on a news aggregator site that tries to accomplish these goals. Hopefully will finish it soon!
Unfortunately for news assignment editors it’s often a race to fill time on air or space in print. Notion of quality content is often secondary.
techmeme and Reuters covers mostly what I would care.

Also https://blog.fefe.de/ but the only reliable news the are IT security related ones.
For national US news, YouTube bc I can listen to it while I work and I dislike tv. It doesn’t matter what the source is. I don’t trust anyone is telling the truth. So I wait to hear a basic outline of events. If a topic interests me I’ll Google/dig a lil more. I ask friends too.
For local news, oddly I’ve been reading tweets from the local police station. I get notifications even tho I don’t follow or list where I live.
I used to get almost all news from Twitter prior to Elon’s takeover.
