Hobby News Rooted in History

Junk wax era was the card industry between ~1987-1993 when the manufacturers printed like maniacs.

You've got to love the end of the hobby's junk-wax era: a "very" limited edition subset of ONLY 150k sets!

You can pick up a set on eBay for less than $10.

Getting zapped 21 sats is more exciting to me now than selling a sports card for $1k.

I ain’t there…yet…also I don’t know that much of the sports card community is into freedom tech.

This morning's sports card research before the 5 to 9 (mile run) before the 9 to 5 (job): 1914 Boston Garter color cards!

A complete set of 12, which would be nearly impossible to piece together today, would cost over $1M. SGC has graded 43 examples, while PSA has only graded two.

Richard Wolffers Auctions, Inc. offered this pair (plus an Ed Konetchy) in their June 1993 auction.

GM!

I have no idea how a #Nostr man cave would be decorated, but an Exhibit Supply Co. football card machine-front ad display would suit a hobby man cave really well!

I wrote a few words about this one on the blog: https://www.postwarcards.com/1948-1952-exhibit-supply-co-football-card-machine-front-advertising-display/

This is hilarious, "The All-Not As Famous As The Other Guy With My Name Team"

Gary Oyer from Hesston, KS, was pretty clever (this was published in Sports Cards Magazine in September 1993).

I’m even planning a podcast because of nostr:npub1v5ufyh4lkeslgxxcclg8f0hzazhaw7rsrhvfquxzm2fk64c72hps45n0v5

Because of #nostr, clients like nostr:npub18m76awca3y37hkvuneavuw6pjj4525fw90necxmadrvjg0sdy6qsngq955 and nostr:npub12vkcxr0luzwp8e673v29eqjhrr7p9vqq8asav85swaepclllj09sylpugg (among others), and this community of forward leaning maniacs, I feel a renewed sense of motivation to contribute more to the hobby (vintage sports cards) than ever before!
