Loving Nostr... I run a UK relay (the first UK Paid Relay) at https://nostr.naut.social Price 4000sats. Which Paid Relays to join? Ones near you, (for speed), some around the world, (for reach). Ones focussed on specific interests/groups you like, (not sure if any exist yet, but they will)

That's already in the protocol. But haven't yet seen in in clients. HOWEVER, be aware that while relays SHOULD drop expired posts, they do not have to. (Though in GDPR countries failing to do would get that relay into trouble). Basically, don't trust Nostr with anything you really need to expire.

We have moved the boat out onto the canal. After months of dark evenings, frozen anti freeze pipes, broken antifreeze hoses and bad weather (narrow boat don't play nice when broadsided by the wind) we are out :-)

Nostrgram Global vs Snort Global when I've turned off READ on what I think are the main public relays and basically fallen back on the paid ones.

Asian bums pouring into Nostrgram Global.

No Asian bums on Snort Global

Dear CCP, your attack is ineffective.

You data as in your posts, run your own relay and publish to it. Won't be long before "one click local relay" will be built by devs.

You can't rely on twitter to keep your data either. As soon as it becomes clear it won't make money, everything can be turned off. Compuserve Forums anyone?

So...Nostrgram Global is, pretty much the public feed, by design, and not relay definable by the client (except to add paid relays).

On snort.social I can turn off READ from a bunch of the public relays and that should reduce the influx of asian bottoms.

Experiment in progress. With my luck, the Chinese guy (it's a guy, we know it's a guy) will now stop...

Nostr, not Damus. Damus is simply a client for Appleists :-)

You think your stuff is important? YOU keep it. Don't rely on others.

Though it can fun when they do. My first site.

Thanks for that. I figured a half day and pay a day to be generous. Once running I can probably do the rest, just call them back in for scary things like upgrades :-)

Right now, depends on the captcha. But it's an arms race.

But I do like the wayback machine.

My first site. It never looked much but that was part of the fun :-)

Nostr brings back that early Net vibe.

Cunning spam. You might have noticed all the pert asian bums in Global today. I did my usual block, but it's not one account, it's many. So muting takes out some, but the flood continues.

I'm going to go with "it's the CCP trying to make Nostr unusabled" because it makes us early adopters seem like freedom fighters :-)

So, are they also paying to relay? Or just polluting the free feed? Haven't checked yet...

Dear bots, the future is bleak. And I'll get rich.

Step One : Humans move to Paid Relay.

Step Two : Bots realise they need to follow.

And so you fall into my cunning trap.

My captcha has two exits, one for people, to a paid relay. The other, for bots, to a DIFFERENT paid relay, with a link to another, on my server cluster running tens of thousands of bare bones relay instances, all of which extract money from bots.

Devs, you're welcome. Spammers, one day you'll end up broke. Or have to go manual and that also essentially solves the problem:-)

On Nostrgram when you Mute and refresh, you purge your TL of the offenders previous posts.

This is now part of my morning routine. There's always a few Chinese spamming about their discord.

AAAANNNNDDDD the Chinese spammers are awake. Mute

Trump. Then I can run a Trump and Maga free relay, just 50000sats. And a Maga Hat one with no libtards, just 250,000 sats :-)

nostr.wine and eden.land something. As to blockers, doesn't seem to be in practice. People get Nostr then really get sats, and pay to relay becomes the first thing they buy in BTC :-)

So, this is where we are. Anyone want to get paid to set up my Relay? You get sats and your CV forever says "built the famous for it's name nostr.naut.social Relay".

This is brilliant for supermarkets and other narrow margin retailers where customers don't value or use the consumer protections of credit cards.,.

Moving from taking cards to taking Lightning, a 1% saving at the till could be a 10% gain in gross margin!

On Nostr, that feels somehow wrong, what with all the purple birds here :-)

I once wrote a TOS said that you could be booted for "taking up more of my time than you are worth". I THINK it was enforceable. No one ever sued me though...:-)

As a British kid, first thing you learn is to eat what's on the plate or go hungry. If you're lucky.

If you're unlucky you have to sit at the table for hours in a battle of wills over a baked custard tart (50 years later and still, just, can't eat cold baked custard tart flan)

Second thing you learn, you can't judge food by it's looks. Except cold baked custard tart, obvs.

Bon apetite!

It may not look much but have you ever tasted a rich mince stew? The tatties are the error here. They should be mashed with butter and cream, possibly also with caramelised onions (if you have the time), but for sure - there is no sugar in there, no additives, no mouth feel enhancers, and only enough salt for taste.

Now, thanks for reminding me, I need to get some salmon out of the freezer to marinade in ginger, soy and honey :-) Because real British Cuisine, like a great artist, STEALS from the entire world :-) (I mean, the tatties are from the Andes....).

They do, but I just flagged it because a LOT of people here are very into decentralisation, and that means spotting where the likes of Google might step in and designing it out, as much as possible. I'm personally neutral. I use a gmail account for some things and a text display only one for others.

open response - ordinary users will never want to engage in relay management. If clients automanaged - e.g monitor which relays have the people they follow, and only hit those, but go wider if "no posts from X for 24 hours". OR everyone will end up relying on the Google Relay.

IANAC - I am not a coder...

As a Brit, so wrong on so many levels :-)

But also, might explain some the teas I've been given when travelling...
