Thinking about python, geospatial, forestry, and LiDAR in small-town Idaho.

Thanks, Angela :) good to be back on here. My brackets were a bust, but what fun tournaments!

Y’all are lucky I took a break from nostr during March so you didn’t have to hear me ramble about college basketball for 3 weeks straight. No promise next year

When you need a reminder of why we need open, neutral money… #bitcoin

Excellent! Now I need to catch up on all the new ecash interactions and everything else

Nothing against zapple pay! I know it works well for a lot of people. I am just trying to get the zap button working on iOS clients, which is a different use case to zapple pay

My version of damus does not show a zap icon… I remember will released a damus script that would enable it but I haven’t been able to find it. Do you know how to do this?

I have never used zapple pay because my wallet doesn’t support nwc and frankly it seems like a hack compared to using a button directly!

#asknostr how do I get sending zaps working on damus or nostur? Been off for a few months and now I can’t figure out how to enable on iOS. Is Apple winning?

It was called Dat Protocol once, then they rebranded. Paul Frazee tried building a decentralized social network called CTZN using it but don't think that took off. Paul has also heavily contributed to the SSB ecosystem, and now works at Bluesky if I am not wrong

The better thing to do would be to use a simpler protocol for private sharing of files etc (like the Signal protocol) and announce your preferred servers using nostr. Kinda like how live streams, audio spaces, and git stuff work over nostr

Thanks for connecting all these dots. I hadn’t realized the history of Pear. I did just find this interesting post-mortem from Paul - sounds like the project failures were more around design than around the protocol itself.

I heard the TikTokers have arrived. What’s up, Nostr? What have I missed?

A year ago a lost a close friend… was going through our texts today and found this - wish he were still around to follow up on this thought

I think you saw my comments on GitHub, but here is the current iOS version on my phone with their bug fix comments. Hard to know for sure, but clearly there were some issues with keyboard interactions that got fixed. Still no clue why I wasn’t seeing the same thing in other apps. Forever a mystery!

Writing some test notes right now… after weeks of poor behavior and an iOS update everything seems buttery smooth. Wondering if this was just an iOS issue specific to my phone.

People will complain about various things, but McCormack leads some excellent discussions on What Bitcoin Did. Blue collar bitcoiners are similar - very different vibe, but both have a tendency to ask real questions and not shy away from discussions that need to happen (even if the host ends up being wrong)

I’ve been relatively absent from nostr the last few months. Unfortunately, I Damus and my phone haven’t been getting along, but primarily added stress at work just kept me away and altered my personal life.

Things have calmed down now and I’m back! Currently using Nostur… what other nostr developments have I missed over the start of the year? What’s the state of e-cash on nostr? Hit me with links!
