That’s nice and I fully support such efforts :) sounds great for most self hosters just getting started. Though I would say running a battle tested reverse proxy like nginx or haproxy in front should always be standard practice.

True, but not everyone is up to that task. Like myself.

I've got lots of unix experience, but coming from a deeply siloed work environment, I wouldn't ever want my life to depend on knowing how to set up a web server, lol

I would be sad to see it all go away, but I am quite unlikely to start using YouTube like an ordinary person would

uBlock Origin in Firefox makes youtube proper bearable, but I still wouldn't use it much.

I'd be sad to see it go.

I'm really wishing that the video community on Fedi would step up to hosting on #PeerTube more.

Because the writing is totally on the wall, and if you have enough awareness and conscience to be on #Fedi/#Mastodon, then you should have enough awareness and conscience to be on PeerTube.

By default, yes. I believe it *can* use an external database if you need to scale it up. nostr:npub1wn3slql7qtxrrmx7f4k8tfs4y0v9ku559qm7ae88tkjurcjplxzs5sj4ad has implemented a server recently, so you can ask him for more details.

Man, bud, I hate having to remember your instance name now, lol. Just a silly complaint, don't take it seriously.

nostr:npub14g4knasy9utvt4slrzk7rme75p2x2pfl8005kxlsrml866he7zcsmsxnzh, and #PeerTube in general.

Tilvids is semi-curated, so there's still a need for general-purpose instances like https://dalek.zone, https://diode.zone, etc...

...because ranting to the camera from inside your car is still a totally valid artform, lol

From the anecdotes of people who have set it up, it's dead simple to get running. Just a handful of commands to set up, no external web server or DB required.

Mastodon (the server software suite) is not exactly designed to be light or even super efficient.

As to the ES dependency question, it’s because ES is much better suited to this sort of thing. It’s designed to do efficient full text searching at scale. Postgres optimizes for other things. It does technically have the ability to do FTS but it’s not nearly as good at scale.

nostr:npub1l3gpk6vrudg8r67swqlex5alv9ch59s4lw46kk6hekuxe2n3aczsyqvu48 Woah woah woah! You don't just casually offer someone lutefisk in these parts. It's gotta be for a holiday or a church dinner. Though all the church dinners have failed to come back since covid... :(

Aw, that stinks.

Another "reason" to move to Texas, people here think Covid is "over." lol

Going to church in Texas is such cognitive dissonance.

Conversations here usually contain the following:

* witty repartee

* earnest well-wishing and prayer requests

* humorous anecdotes

* warm heart-level connection

* occasional batshit fox-news talking points

:facepalm:

yeah, and adafruit's keyboard is sold out as well.

That's why I'm thinking that the Beeper has dried up the world's supply of blackberry keyboards, and they're sourcing something new. *That* is why the logo is fuzzed out on the pictures now.

No error that I can find. I've jumped through all the virtual terminals.

How do you start KDE/Wayland manually? I have no idea. XD

Belated Happy Anniversary!!

Chicken Tikka Masala is my favorite Indian dish, I think. At least, among the well-known was.

When I was a kid, it was Mattar Paner.
