Bluesky has reply-gating (you can set who can reply to a post, like people you follow or a given list or no one) and is now testing out post-publication reply locking.

I just want to yell for a second about how humane and consent-forward these features are, especially after seeing some people here losing their minds when someone asked for gating recently because they felt (alas, not a paraphrase) entitled to always be able to respond.

THAT is your beef with nostr? Among all the problems, you notice that kind could just be another tag and for that you want to start over? That is trivial.

But on that topic, I think instead of a kind field there should be bitflags. One or two bits meaning ephemeral/replaceable, one bit meaning restricted to tagged people, one bit meaning only uploadable by the author, etc. And tag "keys" should be binary, a number not a letter. Events should be binary and don't need to be "read" by humans outside of using a note reader library (which can express them in nice english words) or in code (where they are expressed again as nice english words). I just created a new nsec for a non Bitcoin / nin nostr / non techie thing I like. Hashtags are very important for content discovery if you're not porting contacts from other networks.

My kid is learning reading and writing in Japanese and English. It’s interesting to watch, and sometimes I wonder what’s going on in his head. Occasionally he’ll respond in Japanese to an English question and I have to try to switch him out of that mode. We use Kumon material for English lessons, they make pretty good stuff.
