it's okay if it only offends men - duh!

it's a really weird name for a dish and no one knows what it is here

nostr:npub19fywau9ff6pjmjek7k4kukgdcdf7w4chne57upj5s7y87gk7v27qx7n5nv i've met a few people like that. hyperactive and always getting up to things, and they're a bit cocky. instead of adapting to other people, they boss you around.

nostr:npub19fywau9ff6pjmjek7k4kukgdcdf7w4chne57upj5s7y87gk7v27qx7n5nv you misunderstand what i'm trying to say here. which is that the ADHD makes it hard to pay attention at times, so you do seemingly careless things, even if you do care. and what i'm saying is that if my values agreed with that, my behaviour would make more sense to people. some people with ADHD appear to do that, perhaps as a coping mechanism.

I don't agree. To use a crass Americanism, you "give a shit" generally. Even if that is only about things in your sphere.

I could never buy into individualism because I give a shit. Right is right. It should be everywhere. Doesn't matter if that is uncomfortable or inconvenient (it almost always is).

the courtyard of the Nidarosdomen cathedral in Trondheim is basically turned into a theme park during the summer months.

me and my friends were there when a guy in a medieval costume walked out on a balcony and began shouting a declaration that there would be a theatre performance.

there was also a guy pretending to be working on a block of marble, but all he had was a hammer that he limply struck the block with. no chisel, so it was all for show.

naturally, there were also a bunch of tents that sold souvenirs.

PostNord emailed me and the subject line says "Package has been delivered as agreed"

i'll be the judge of that!

i mean, it was, but...

would you look at that. another mosquito. that's the second one i've seen this year.

Oslo basically doesn't have mosquitoes. having two of them fly into my apartment in a single year is unusual.

i've noticed that my friends have a tendency to not include me in the rest of their circle.

you can attach a strap to a fretless hollow-body bass, but i'm finding that it doesn't really need it. the body is shaped like an acoustic guitar and rests nicely on your knee.

i wonder where you can get a cover to plug the sound hole with, because i bet that's useful to have. less noise when practising at night, and also, if you're playing live and the PA system is loud, it might cut back on feedback.

now imagining a new life as a jazz bass player in Trondheim, as opposed to a (currently unemployed) computer programmer in Oslo. :nkoThink:

tfw your electric instrument is so rarely processed that there is an XLR output on it, in case you simply want to plug it directly into a PA system. no DI box needed. but you better have a good supply of 9V batteries for the built-in preamp. i doubt it can use phantom power, but i should test that. that would be a nice feature.

jazz has the benefit that you can be pretty old and still play in a jazz band. you don't have to wear a costume. you can wear nerdy glasses. you can even look nerdy.

the fretless bass is feeling like a pretty chill instrument to play so far. it's a perfect fit for all the jazz and swing classics like Fly Me To The Moon.

compared to a regular bass or guitar, you're playing more by feel. and there is no such thing as fingering the wrong fret. if you only get it approximately right, you just slide to bend the note where you want it.

and fretless basses are almost per definition supposed to sound a little bit out of tune, because it adds warmth. it's like a voice humming to the tune. sings more than a regular bass.

also the simplest instrument ever to bring with you to a gig, because you just plug it straight into the mixing desk. no fancy amp needed. the sound is supposed to be clean.

nostr:npub1z3w0lndch3mrfr4w8rxmcg7xdm4zke34akysmd7psenp6jfnnv9sm68qvr networking is important here too.

in sales, cold calling people (no prior contact) is the least efficient and least pleasant way of selling your product. having a network and selling a product that fits their needs is much easier, but having such a network is often if not always a matter of luck and circumstances.

applying for jobs without knowing anyone is basically like that, but for the job market. you have to sell your labour to complete strangers.

i had to do that when i first moved to Oslo. i ended up taking mostly low hanging fruit jobs for web development. all the cool jobs had very specific requirements - often, jobs ads like that are written for specific people they have in mind already, so you were never really eligible, but they're just scouting in case someone *really* good applies.
