Thanks for covering this topic Matthew. Really appreciate your work in the space
What is your justification for removing the existing ability of users to set a OP_RETURN limit if they want to?
You could easily allow users to set no limit for themselves and give them the functionality you are proposing.
The fact that you are attempting to FORCE them to adopt this functionality with NO OPTION is what makes everyone perceive this as a bad faith attack.
π π NEW OP_RETURN π π
Book of Nakamoto, Chapter 3, Verses 4β11 And Satoshi spake, not in whispers but in hex, saying: βThou shalt not embed thine data in every field, for the blockchain is not thy diary.β βYet I bestow upon thee OP_RETURN, a sanctuary for up to 40 bytes β no more, lest ye walk the path of vanity.β βFor 40 is the number of discipline: 40 bytes for thy message, no more than is righteous, no less than is truthful.β βAnd behold, I give thee one more blessing: the coinbase message. A field untouched by consensus, wherein miners may write freely.β βUse it to bear witness, to mark genesis, to declare revolt β as I once wrote about the Chancellorβ βBut thou shalt not waste it with shills and tokens of greed, or the wrath of prune shall be upon thee.β And so the nodes upheld this covenant, and the mempool was serene. So go forth, brothers and sisters. Let us inscribe only that which is worthy. And let thy payloads be small, lest one abuse the sacred ledger for thine idle bytes. In the name of the Nonce, the Witness, and the Unspent, Amen.

You would encounter little resistance if you were merely adding optionality.
Why are you trying to remove the ability of users to set a limit for OP_RETURN if they want to?
You are not adding optionality...you are attempting to remove it.
If somebody wants to throttle non monetary data from passing through their own node, you are actively making a change which prevents them from opting out.
You could easily add the optionality you want WITHOUT removing people's ability to opt out.
There is absolutely no justification for removing this option other than as an attempt to force people to adopt a feature they would not adopt voluntarily.
You are also gaslighting everyone with this condescending nonsense.
Any recommendations for how front-end devs can contribute? I'm a react / react-native developer and would like to help people who are building nostr clients (as opposed to the protocol).
That is my favorite half hour of the day. :)
I am much more relaxed here too. I feel much more like I am selecting things to think about rather than having them pushed into my head.

Really does. I just got a kindle Scribe to journal (trying to get one more habit to be offline/not on a computer). I can feel my blood pressure dropping while I use it. Its better for reflection and contemplation than typing....I can't even write fast enough to vent. Venting at .25x speed just makes you feel silly. Lol.
100%. I switched to a flip/dumb phone for a few months at the beginning of this year and I felt like a completely different person. I would actually daydream and come up with ideas again. It ended up being too obstructive and I unfortunatey switched back.
Since then though, I've tried a couple easy habits that have really helped.
1. Keep it put away (out of sight and out of touch). I'll zip it into a pocket of my backpack when I'm working and close it into the nightstand when I'm in bed. Just not seeing in your peripheral vision or feeling it in your pocket really cut down on a MASSIVE percentage of that passive, compulsive feeling to "check" something. Even just 1 second of extra friction is enough to make a huge difference.
2. Set the phone UI to greyscale (black and white). It is amazing how much less interesting / engaging this makes your phone even though it is still usable/functional its just not very enjoyable (which is what I want).
Anyone else got any simple habits for reducing phone usage?
So true man. I am grateful for this every day.
Back on Nostr after I first checked it out about a year ago. It seems like there is a lot more traction and super exciting things happening!
I need to check these out I have the Bose Quiet Comfort but they are starting to crap out after quite a few years
Hahah soooo many possibilities :)
hey DPR depends on what you mean by projects in terms of protocols, btc, nostr, monero, etc. For hobbies pretty into BJJ/Music would be interested to get some kind of channels or groups together there. Also learning software development so groups around self-taught software dev might be interesting too (since you probably get a lot of independent types on here).
LOL. I'm learning to code right now and already worrying about this.
So Excited to be finally be on nostr!Β Been putting this off for a while and already blown away to see how this works.
