Up in the woods of Maine scratching out our dream

Look, it must be the end of January already! Wow, winter is flying by here in Maine!

No seriously though, what the hell is this crap in December, way to early

Don’t forget to put your garlic in, now’s the time up here in Maine. Planted 75-80 cloves here. Garlic is a no brainer, so easy, just have to compost and mulch them in as the like rich soil

I guess it’s time to put the studded snows on the truck. Wood stove is going at least at night now and it feels like winter is not far away

I’m getting the evil eye this morning

I used to canoe down the river to harvest enough wild elderberries to get me through the winter but the wild ones I planted are now producing better that I thought. Now I can just worry about fishing when I’m going down the river

Now you if I can just figure out how to live with Asian jumping worms…

Spooky beautiful water

It’s almost hoodie season up here in Maine 👍

Apparently Voldemort lost his wand in my well pipe ditch

Make sure you help out your neighbors whenever you can, especially when they own a backhoe and you don’t

Ya know Ben just a fire pit is great, especially in the winter

Everyone got their wood all stacked and ready for the winter? I usually get mine in June. I use only wood for heat and run through about 3 cords for the winter mainly because we have a small cabin and it’s super insulated. We built it with mostly discounted and cull lumber so our north wall was made out of 2x10’s lol just because we had them and didn’t have to buy anything. We literally spend the winter with the loft window open 24/7 because it gets so hot in here.

All you have to do is park a camper next to it and they will naturally go to the camper

If your app doesn’t have Dark Mode…you are dead to me

Well hello Mr Lives Under My Wood Pile and Eats Mice. Don’t let me keep you from your work as I do appreciate it, carry on

I mean there’s mushrooms out there, there’s a lot at stake lol, I’d be breaking the law

Wow, that is crazy, come on down to Maine, we’re only partially crazy and we can still use the woods

I had a raccoon get 6 of mine last week, just got some you Plymouth Rocks to replace them, they’re young and full of it. Hopefully they start laying soon

Since we’ve made our garden here every year new and different creatures show up that I haven’t seen here before

I just harvested my garlic the other day, 72 bulbs, which is enough for us. I’ll take 72 of the cloves off the bulbs and plant them in late October after the first frost for next year. I use a lot of it as my cold and flu remedy. Cut up into chunks along with ginger, cover with raw honey and shake it once in a while. If I get sick I’ll start eating the chunks of garlic and ginger. It’s my go to and it works. The honey will darken with time but it never goes bad just gets better. I also make elderberry syrup for the same reason.

This a place in Maine called Jasper beach. It is all completely covered with nice smooth jasper rocks of all colors. Beautiful place

Home Depot often has a ton of special order lumber etc. that people never pick up. Ask them offer some ridiculous price and a lot of times they will take it. Especially if the DM doesn’t s stopping by, they don’t want that stuff hanging around. It’s all just numbers to them. I’ve built have my cabin for next nothing doing this.

No my well is 330’, the frost line in the winter is 4-5’ so I have to burry my water line 4’ to avoid freezing in the winter
