I hope you’re right. I “left Babylon” about 18 months ago, and my life has markedly improved since. Still a lot of room to grow too.
Run those models locally yall 😅

Man, my goal has been to get out for so long. I have my bitty but also a bunch of other plans to accelerate getting out. Hoping it works out for both of us!
Been working all weekend due to a pretty rough situation at fiat job. I’m exhausted.
Agreed. One of the best engineers I’ve ever met was a woman. She was great and I absolutely loved working with her.
Mary Harrington on the Minority Report -esque technology being used in the UK | Unherd
> Sunak, a technocrat by disposition, perhaps hoped the public would perceive such a tool to be, as a non-human, less at risk of taint by the increasingly dour and partisan identity politics which have come to characterise Britain. If so, this project may be only the first of a new wave of political attempts at “neutral” buck-passing. That is, efforts to de-politicise intractably political issues, as a previous generation attempted with quangos, just this time using AI. And the response from Statewatch and the Guardian should give an early indicator of how well that’s going to work — which is to say, not at all.
Perhaps, eventually, Britain’s leaders will learn the hard way that political problems require political solutions. Unhappily, it seems we are still nowhere near that moment of realisation yet.

Mary is great and she’s spot on here.
Ya, I was only 20 and didn’t know how insane interactions with police can be. The new employer was also a dick and let me talk to them without a lawyer, even though they knew better.
Thankfully, I didn’t fall for any of the tricks this detective tried to pull on me.
Ya, it’s intense haha
People love that damn place. I think they’re just ok. Would rather a homemade one 10/10 times.
Make EVERYTHING dumb again. I want dumb tvs, dumb speakers, dumb cameras, dumb appliances…
Fun story - many years ago I was working at a small IT services firm as a bizdev guy. The guy who owned it was a coke head who put me in very uncomfortable settings, multiple times.
So, I left and joined a competitor. Part of my job was creating lists of potential clients to pursue. At both jobs, I scraped Google and other open data sources to do so.
Previous employer freaked out when he found out I was at a competitor and filed a police report that I had stolen IP.
A detective interviewed me and, with a straight face, insisted that using Google to do this was stealing IP 🫠
The case ended up going nowhere… nostr:note1h27fjquh6m4dkzvw2f43nzktw7hz2zgemrj0zhkmm7ql8adh48rstvgwxs
Amazing and hilarious 🤣
Just additional evidence that material wealth means nothing without meaning and purpose.
Another banger from Mary Harrington. This piece makes me see AI in a different light, but the ending inspires me so much. I have so many ideas for things to build that are ordered to human ends, rather than just simply “does it work”.
