How would you describe Bitcoin in 5 words or less?

I know many people want me to be “the progressive bitcoiner” guy to reach the left. I keep trying to stick it out, but I have to move on at the end of this year. I’m exhausted.

A huge segment of the left see “Bitcoin” and just aren’t here yet to get it.

I hope with rebooting money they’ll still be able to learn, and that it can even be a bigger thing and platform. I just can’t be “that guy” any more when I don’t believe and am quite repulsed by our current failed political, two party system in the U.S. Bitcoin is a paradigm shift, there’s no pretending it’s not.

Doesn’t mean rebooting money won’t be a place for mainstream, normal audiences! But I hope it can appeal to a wide audience, and not pretend to be steeped in current politics that are so petty and small and a huge distraction compared to what I hope for the future to be.

Question for all of you sat stacking saavy savants out there:

I have a small business in the Caribbean (MX) and want to accept crypto payments without having to spend 15 hrs training my staff or signing on with some giant company.

I've done some research but not found what I'm looking for. Maybe I'm searching for a unicorn here but...

I'm looking for a point-of-sale system that:

-works on lightning or another fast layer 2

-accepts bitcoin (bonus for other top crytos)

-is easy to set up (I'm not a super techy guy)

- easy to read/use as square, or any other POS system

-I can put a local currency amount owed into it (say 1000 mx pesos) and it converts to sats that need to be paid

-Creates a QR code for payment

-gives me a solid confirmation that the payment has happened

- allows me to self custody

-no (or extremely minimal) KYC

-has a wallet interface for my staff ( i.e. without accesst to seed keys or send keys)

- minimal fees

-preferably works on a phone/tablet and not some other rando device

-has customer service of some sort that can help if everything goes sideways

-the less cool gidgets and gadgets the better (just want to accept payments)

Has anyone seen such a beast?

If not, who's gonna build it for me?

I don’t think so. But I checked my profile in both places and it showed in one and not the other. I think adding a relay is the answer. I’m trying it now.

I’m still exploring the Nostr universe (Nostrvrs?)

I wrote a post on Primal and I don’t see it on other clients (like Damus, where I’m writing this). Is this a relay thing? Will the post show up everywhere in time?

That's good thinking, but again that should be at a client level, not the protocol level. If a particular community want to develop an app based on the idea that they know best who their members should or should not see, they can build and maintain it. We don't need and I don't think most of us would want to give up that control.

However, that does identify a need for private groups, where a specific set of people can speak freely on specific topics without being exposed to the rest of the world. One of the biggest drivers of growth for Facebook and Twitter was the difference in how they handled privacy. On Twitter, now X, everything is public. But Facebook created private groups where people could organize and actually conduct business, making decisions with internal consensus rules or governance that worked for them. This is a separate topic than Mute or Block, but it is a critical piece of how socialedia has evolved over the last few decades that Nostr needs to catch up with. Even X is trying communities, although they seem to be crap like everything else on there.

How about opt-in crowd-sourced mute/block lists that can be shared between friends? Imagine if an abusive person was constantly having to request to be unmuted/unblocked by individuals who used a popular mute/block list. Social shaming is more effective when it comes from the community rather than an authority. They might actually change their behavior.
